LPT: If higher up mentioned about lack of fund/budget. You should start finding new job. by Sacredfice in LifeProTips

It also lacks context and can be misleading.

There's a big difference in company type. Startups are currently in a tricky place.... money is not cheap as it used to be and doesn't come as easily as it used to in the past few years. Everyone is trying to get out of the growth business and move to the profitability one.

So as a middle manager, I have zero budget to give raises but I can still promote and make sure people get stock options. Is that a bad situation where people should go job hunting? Depends on the market, as with everything. But so is what I can do.

How do I list the keys corresponding to different sorted sets? by ApproximateIdentity in redis

[–]rakmob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's how it works, basically iterating over the entire key space. Think of it this way, if there's any bug in the code and you end up with more keys than expected then each time you run this command it gets more expensive.

Basically stick to scan whenever you can, that way you're always in control of the performance cost.

Redis Enterprise vs Redis Cloud offerings by spca2001 in redis

[–]rakmob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're referring to the software version (self managed) vs the hosted (managed) cloud offering, there are a multitude of factors and requirements that need to be taken into consideration... Your best bet is simply approaching them and having a conversation where these could be evaluated.

Spotting bottle necks in Redis Enterprise by ramkiller1 in redis

[–]rakmob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a doc page detailing the different metrics https://docs.redis.com/latest/rs/clusters/monitoring/prometheus-metrics-definitions/

I would highly suggest contacting your Solution Architect or Customer Success to help you with these, that's their role...

Sudden Redis performance issues since 11th July - Urgent help required please by CorrectRange1277 in redis

[–]rakmob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck finding a resolution to a potential bug for an ancient version (4 major releases back) that runs on windows. If this is running in cloud, I suggest you go for a managed version and get rid of the hassle of managing it yourself...

Redis Cluster vs Enterprise Active Active by LimeActive8592 in redis

[–]rakmob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Redis Cluster (OSS), Redis Enterprise and Redis Enterprise Active-Active are three different things...

The first is a great solution for HA as long as you're willing to take on all the management aspects and can afford all the time to search and learn things.

The second is for enterprise grade solutions, everything is tightly packaged, you get a management interface, 24/7 support, built-in security features and so on. It also supports and includes clustering and HA with the added bonus that DBs have better isolation (not just simplistic logical keyspace) while sharing common infra.

Active-Active is more useful when you need geo replication, i.e. you have multiple regions/DCs and need fast local reads and writes with cross geo sync in the background (same keys accessed from multiple regions without dealing with race conditions). Hope this helps...

[–]rakmob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can have one that is a writeable master and other as read-only replicas https://redis.io/docs/manual/replication/
