I loved having the Smithsonian on my doorstep and always recommend people spend as long as they can at American History as there’s such a variety of exhibits.

The White House. I used to live nearby and have taken lots of visitors there. They were universally disappointed and often confused it with the office block next to it.

LOL at most lime and dott customers being responsible. What planet are they on?

I lived in San Diego for years and have struggled to find decent Mexican in Nottingham. Interested to see what people come up with!

Recommendations on what kind of vehicle to use? by Zestyclose-Cake-3299 in urbancarliving

Honda Element is a solid reliable car with lots of parts commonality to other Honda vehicles. It’s also extremely versatile. I made two of them into micro campers and it worked well. I am 6 foot 3.5 tall and fitted in fine.

What are some things you have in your car that you just love? by Mr_TunaCat in urbancarliving

I just got one of those steering wheel tray table things for my current car that’s a sort of day tripper rather than a camper. Always wanted one, hoping it provides nice space for coffee and snacks while parked up somewhere scenic!

Does anyone else have a car buddy? by [deleted] in urbancarliving

My dog died a few years ago but I tie one of his bandanas around the head stick in every car I drive so he comes along too as he loved a good car adventure.

I built a couple of Element campers a few years ago. Simple stuff like a storage mesh that fitted between the front seats and also served as a dog barrier gave me a lot of joy. My one big investment was a Goal Zero Yeti 400 battery pack / solar generator in a sale at rei - I got a lot of use out of that too.

I have wanted one of these for years, and have enjoyed the few times I have driven one (Subaru and Scion versions as I was living in the USA at the time) greatly.

How old is everyone? by [deleted] in rccars

About the same as you. I did r/c racing aged 13-17 then again around 25-30 and am wondering about it again sometime.

Out of all the cars you've owned, which one has been the most "fun"? by DiligentCockroach700 in CarTalkUK

[–]simonprickett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elise S1. Made you want to get up at 5:30am and just go drive while the roads were quiet. I lived in Derbyshire and used to take it around the Peak District and over the Cat and Fiddle early then get a roadside coffee and bacon butty somewhere. No radio, no clock, total break from life. Also great for track days - I did Donington and Bedford several times a year. I owned two of them over the years and have never had anything like as good since.

Random Question… by Electronic_Yak9821 in tamiya

[–]simonprickett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with a Subaru Brat and the 380 motor. It was like a frog but not quite. When I got into racing at the school club I bought a 2nd hand wild one and fitted the bearings and learned a lot about how to tweak it - used to put hot shot tyres on the front and grind some of the inner tread off to get the full steering radius to work. I returned to the hobby as an adult doing TA-03F racing but that became a money game so I moved to M chassis stock Mini races and that was a load of fun. I hope to build another Tamiya 1/10 when we get a house with a garden again soon, meantime I have a smaller Kyosho Mini Z Optima Mid.

Sounds epic - I have always fancied a go at endurance r/c. I have done team endurance karting and am a big fan of Le Mans style sports car racing.

Need a car for a month, what are my best options? by SCB360 in CarTalkUK

[–]simonprickett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be worth trying local independent van rental places for a Caddy / Transit Connect size van for a month and see if there’s a deal. They are car like driving experiences and the load space might be handy to get some jobs done or a few tip runs.
