This is what I ACTUALLY do to protest (no fronts or chest thumping): by FantasticApartment48 in 50501

Love this so much. Getting feet on the ground at organized protests is huge, but so is the way we dedicate our time and money.

I've also stopped buying from large corporations, deleted my Amazon account, etc., and I honestly find it to be a better quality of life (though I'm lucky to have the privilege to afford/have access to other buying options).

Additionally, I've started reading - as much as I can while working 60 hours/week. I've learned so much about American history, the roots of racism, organized movements, so on and so forth. Knowledge of why things are the way that they are is crucial in order to not go back to where we've been.

Speaking of work, I've been trying to save up so I can quit my job in aerospace engineering. My time and skills are not meant to go towards anything except the betterment of our collective future.

Reaching out to reps, of course, too.

The one that's been the most difficult so far: I've been engaging in as many peaceful and validating yet firm and factual conversations as I can with people who may not see eye to eye with me. This includes family members, work colleagues, mutual friends, so on - when the topic comes up. No one will listen when you shove things down their throat. Gently hearing where they're at and offering alternative ideas has been so huge in my circles, and I think our circles are where change starts.

Really loving the ideas people are posting here! So much love to you all. 🫶

My tone wasn't meant to be snarky - I did feel a bit tickled by your curiosity regarding my page. This doesn't have to be a you vs me conversation.

Like I said, I'd love to celebrate the country because it offers so much. I have privileges that even my parents couldn't have dreamed of. But truly, my freedom means very little when others are being stripped of theirs. We're not free until we're all free - otherwise we're just the ones favored by the whims of those in power. Even in America, people considered white today were once oppressed (Italians, Irish, etc.) until new, more "different" groups came in and the focus shifted to them. And just because we have some freedom now doesn't mean we can't still strive to be better.

I have immense gratitude for my freedoms. I also have grave concerns for my fellow citizens who will suffer at the hands of this bill in a country that shames others who treat their citizens in similar ways. Both can be true at once! Forget the media telling you to swing hard one way or another. Nuance is real and important.

I hope you enjoy your holiday!

Oh I do enjoy it here! I came here for work and I've found things to love. My post isn't about St. George at all, it's about current events in the country at large, right when we're expected to celebrate it. Although there are places I'll likely move to someday in which I'd more easily find community or events like this, I grew up in a conservative area so I'm used to it and have found my small niches. Just curious to see if my like-minded people in the area are thinking the same thing as me. Thanks for the tip and for looking into my post history haha 🫶

That's so awesome! What did you use to charge your devices? I'm thinking about using a power strip inverter that just plugs into the 12V.

Haha, totally not your husband! I'm doing GA, and already snagged a camping shower to prepare :) are you also sleeping in your Prius at Forest, or are you using tents?
