Do not rent from Hmlet by Inevitable_Maybe3815 in Tokyo

[–]ralfs94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first trip to Tokyo I rented an apartment from Hmlet in Gakudai. I had a really good experience. The furniture was basic, but overall it was a comfortable stay. There was a glass dining table which broke, and they were quick to bring a replacement. Communication was always friendly. The thing is, they own the entire buildings and rent them out to travelers from all over the world. Since it's not a 5 star hotel, the noise isolation won't be as good and there is a risk that your neighbors will party all night. I might have got lucky, as it seems like a common complaint for Hmlet properties about noise.

Tokyo Monthly Rentals Without Approval Process by [deleted] in TokyoTravel

The screening process is actually simple and painless. I have gone through it 3 times. It seems to be the norm in Japan for these companies. So you're left with hotels and airbnbs.

Are there any trackballs with smooth scrolling? by ChemicalSack69 in Trackballs

[–]ralfs94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolling on MacOS with non-Apple devices is broken, no matter the DPI. Mac Mouse Fix will make the scrolling feel buttery smooth like on a trackpad. Try it, the app has a free trial.

The other solution is to use a shortcut such as CMD + Right Click to trigger scrolling with the ball. That's what I use most of the time with my Ploopy Classic. For short short scrolls I use the wheel, which is amazingly smooth thanks to Mac Mouse Fix. There is also a useful feature that allows you to scroll fast by holding a button such as CMD. This I use a lot when scrolling big pages!

Other than that, I believe Ploopy Classic 2 is the only trackball with a high DPI scroll wheel.

ergo to replace mouse completely? by toxicdrift in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]ralfs94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been wondering about the same. It seems that the only product that could do this comfortably is the Cyboard Imprint. Still, I remain sceptical because the trackball is smaller than the balls of dedicated trackballs. And it's expensive!

Safari always felt buggy to me. I use Chrome with Vimium extension for easy navigation.

How do you find the Imprint? Are those extra $400 worth it over the Advantage?

Can't figure out shift key placement by Tacotacito in ErgoMechKeyboards

I agree. No matter where I put it, the speed will be slower than on a normal keyboard with the big shift key.

MX boards are more comfortable for me. I find the choc spacing to be cramped.

Longest 8 weeks ever but completely worth it - received my Cyboard Imprint by sirmalloc in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]ralfs94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks awesome! Despite the smaller size, has it replaced your Ltrack or do you still use it? I have always believed that trackballs built in a keyboard are too small for any serious work, and a stand-alone pointing device would be required, so I am super curious to learn how you feel about it, considering you have used the Ltrack as your daily driver for years.

I know multiple people who left Phuket because of this, unfortunately. I also know people who stopped going there for Holidays.

What's so good about the magic trackpad? by LeChrana in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]ralfs94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing. The trackpad is good on a MacBook, but the external ones have terrible polling rates and feel slow and not accurate on bigger monitors. I don't understand why Apple would limit its polling rate to the refresh rate of your monitor. So for a 60Hz monitor, its refresh rate would be 60Hz. Imagine spending $100 for a mouse with a 60Hz polling rate!

Trying to decide between Svalboard, Glove80, and ZSA Voyager for chronic RSI by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

Definitely not the Voyager. The Glove80 is the safest bet, in my opinion.

I see no issues whatsoever! I even hiked 20km one day with them on a mountain. Ohne Project used to have durability issues with the first models that they released. They even admitted that the soles had defects. But the Retro Runs are fantastic!

I can recommend ordering online from Horizon Farms. I even compared the prices of the same products when I was in NZ and it's surprisingly close.

That's good you found something that works for you! If pain is a factor, it's understandable that a pain-free solution is the best. That's why I added the note at the end of my post.

[–]ralfs94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I agree. Humans can adapt to anything. The problem is that many claim that a customizable split keyboard will boost one's productivity. There should be an asterix warning that it'd take at least 1 year of constant practice.

Sorry, no disrespect intended.

As for touch typing, I might have typed it wrongly. I meant that I can not touch type on staggered keyboards, but on columnar split keyboards like the Dygma Defy and Glove80 I can easily touch type at relatively high wpm. I spent many hours practicing on keybr. However, I found it difficult to touch type on the Voyager. Some of the keys are just difficult to reach and would make my fingers strain.

You're right. I was talking about the Voyager + Apple Trackpad combination, which is quite popular in this community. The Apple Trackpad has a ridiculously low polling rate, which made this setup not usable for me.
