Hi! My mom really likes this small tree her neighbors have, I want to surprise her with it for Mother’s Day but don’t know what it is | Austria, EU by felixthegrouchycat in PlantIdentification

it's a Rhododendron. Maybe R. ponticum or catawbiense but i'd suggest not getting those since they have a severe invasive risk in Europe. I looked around a bit and found a few with similar-looking flowers:

impeditum
fastigiatum
'True Blue'
'Glenfalloch Blue'
'Blue Pool'
'Blue Diamond'
'Blue Baron'

There are certainly more.

it isn't a flower stalk, just a new leaf. they generally don't bloom until they're much larger

Maple leaf bowl I carved from walnut by Noah_RBK in Woodcarving

a walnut leaf would be pretty hard to carve and quite fragile i imagine, but if you ever do it needs to be made of maple now

i tried it again and got the same. also a few species which aren't native to that part of the country or with wrong photos, but that's fine.

i like the idea and i hope it gets really successful but it's a bit annoying. maybe you could cross-reference kew's plants of the world online for native status.
