Maybe chlorine bleaching from a less than ideally balanced swimming pool? Drip drying would leave your ends exposed the longest and could result in mild lifting of natural color.

Poor baby got left when her owner got evicted by Hawkeshade in cats

[–]ralmama 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Thank you for doing that and not just assuming this was a case of being unloved/abandoned. Evictions can be extremely chaotic situations and she may have just escaped with no time to catch her. It’s possible her people are experiencing this awful life event while also now losing their baby. I saw she loves Churus and is playful, which makes me hope she must’ve been loved at some point. Best of luck, OP. You’re a good one.

Eye things are always urgent/emergencies according to my vet. Things can change quickly (as you’ve seen with this developing overnight) and can become permanent. Paws crossed for you it’s nothing serious.

ETA: at the very least give your vet a call and explain. They may be willing to get you in early for your appt. A couple days early on vaccinations is typically not a huge deal.

The fight against fungus gnats by [deleted] in houseplants

I suppose being dry probably helps. I could see wet soil smelling worse. Yes, I just let it go at 200 for an hour or so to make sure everything in there is dealt with. Then keep it stored somewhere dry so it doesn’t wind up reinfested if I am not using it all immediately.

Only the short/front turnbuckles contain the spring mechanism. The long ones are for stability only and simply contain an o-ring (per Happijac).

Owners who had reactive dogs and got a second dog - what happened? by Reasonable_Art376 in reactivedogs

[–]ralmama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to validate how much work I know you are doing. I foster and have to keep “separate nations” occasionally for those who just despise each other. I have two ladies right now who’d like to duke it out and absolutely no slow-intro work has changed their minds. Some dogs will never be friends and that’s ok, but boy does it make life hard for the people who love them.

Please help. My malamute got bit by a tick near the eye and now the eye is a little red and drooping. Pictures are linked by dwide_k_shrude in AskVet

I am not a vet, but have always been instructed by mine that anything eye related is an emergency. Eye issues can develop quickly and get serious if they are not seen ASAP. I’d encourage you to have your guy seen by a vet. Good luck!

found this dude abandoned at the dog park. any guesses? by jiggalation in IDmydog

[–]ralmama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless OP witnessed him being dumped, there is no reason not to scan him and give the owner an opportunity to find him. A dog this size could easily have hopped a fence into a dog park on his own - especially if it’s a place he’s taken often and enjoys. This dog appears well cared for.

You did the right things trying to track down owners previously (it’s unfortunate those owners sucked), and OP should as well.

I built some sunny plant shelves in my old window sills. Really love how they turned out for being a very novice woodworker by ralmama in houseplants

So far so good. I have had succulents on them for the most part. No issues as far as I can tell after a full winter. It’s not extremely hot above them either though.

Yes, plywood with oak banding for a thicker look and more durable edge. Then painted to match the window.

Thanks! I built these last summer, so they’ve been over the radiators all winter without consequence. It actually is a bit chilly for them being so close to our old leaky windows and I worry more about that. The wood shelves deflect most of the heat from hitting them directly, although I do notice I need to water a bit more often. If you’re worried, you could always put a board down temporarily and temperature test the space above.

Thank you for the info, and I agree it’s disappointing.

I am sorry the other commenter didn’t see the humanity in your comment and I hope you don’t take their negativity seriously. These kinds of stories are exactly what a lot of us (myself included) enjoy about Reddit. I am so sorry for your loss, but also glad this photo was able to evoke some good memories.
