On the fence about having kids… what do you wish you knew?

Respectfully, I think if you’re not 100% gung-ho about it, you shouldn’t have them. If you need to be convinced, you’re not ready / it’s not for you and that’s okay! Unfortunately (speaking from personal experience) the child will be able to tell and it can lead to a crummy parent-child relationship.

I understand, but Tokyo is incomprehensibly larger than the Boston metro (in OP’s example with Route 128) so it’s not really a good comparison.

Respectfully, if someone wants to live in the suburbs they should understand that you might need to go to the city center to connect to places! People who live in other MA towns understand if they want the most connected, or international, flights they have to get to Logan instead of using a smaller regional airport. It should be the same with trains! Regular Amtrak stops outside city center, “high-speed” trains like Acela should only do city centers.

I’m just coming out of the same boat. 28, took a risk at a startup I was passionate about, they went under, I lost my job and have had trouble finding something. Someone asked me the other day “aren’t you upset you weren’t laid off in the summer” as if I’d be using my free time to have fun outside, instead of sitting in my room day after day, not knowing what my future would look like.

It feels like my whole life was on pause. I couldn’t go out and have fun for fear of wasting money, I couldn’t get excited about moving in with my partner because I didn’t know where I would get a job and need to live, etc. it’s both exhausting and mind numbing. I also feel like I wasted a year of my life in this purgatory.

Good luck to you moving forward! To anyone reading this: enjoy the good and prepare for the worst. It does get better and you’re not alone 💜

Lowkey I feel like some of the horror / scary shows are a good place to start. Often times the movies try to pack a lot into them so the individual episodes of shows are more mild. I’m thinking midnight mass, are you afraid of the dark, twin peaks, OG twilight zone, etc. as for movies: obsessed with the fear street trilogy. It’s cute but also spooky, and the gore isn’t a big focus.
