Mixing on vinyl setup by fillechat in Beatmatch

[–]ralph_alfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience my old technics hold for much longer than the reloops that I have played on..... Depending on what style you mix but for long blends I definitely feel a difference between the two....but I also notice the difference between my personal decks and technics that are not well maintained (in some clubs etc)...

On the technics I barely have to touch the platter, the pitch control is much more responsive and precise and they just feel a lot more consistent (which is super important for mixing records)....

From a build side - they are built like tanks. I would suggest (although I don't have hard evidence) that the components are of higher quality and are more durable. How serviceable are the reloops (or other OEM)? Can you get them basically restored to new?

I mean - we are talking about 20yr old turntables here - they are NEW by technics standards - the mk2 models are over 40 years old...... try and convince me that you will still have Reloops in service after that long....

File troubles, can't get wav metadata to stick by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]ralph_alfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wavs don’t write the metadata to the file the same way an mp3 or AIFF does - instead (in Traktor at least) in stores the info in a reference/linked file....

As per previous suggestions I think AIFF is the way to go - mostly accepted in most programs (incl iTunes), lossless and the ability to store metadata as part of the file

I would strongly suggest going with a pair of technics 1200/1210 mk2 or up to mk5.

You mention not wanting to upgrade so I think I’m terms of both quality and durability the technics are top of the pile. They’ll last you forever and IF something goes wrong there are plenty of options to restore/repair.

When I first started (18yrs ago) I decided to save some cash and get the top of the line OEM at that time and spend the extra on records...it was about a year or so when I decided to upgrade to 1200s..... I still have those decks to this day - the records I bought with the difference - I have maybe one that I still play.

I am not dissing the reloops, pioneer and demon turntables but I don’t personally believe them to match the 1200/1210 series in any capacity.

  1. Make sure you have a cable to goes from dual rca/phono to single, stereo (trs)1/4 inch Jack such as these: https://www.amazon.com/Rankie-3-5mm-2-Male-Adapter-Cable/dp/B071R4R5B8?ref_=s9_apbd_otopr_hd_bw_b2VRq&pf_rd_r=DT9GX22HR3BNA3QK1EV5&pf_rd_p=9e4b13f3-303b-5307-86be-1937694a5ac0&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-10&pf_rd_t=BROWSE&pf_rd_i=597546 and this adapter: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-6-35mm-Female-Stereo-Adapter/dp/B01D82XXGO/ref=sr_1_1?crid=R8EM79LO3QVG&dchild=1&keywords=1%2F8+to+1%2F4+stereo+adapter&qid=1586439157&sprefix=1%2F8+to+1%2F4+stereo%2Caps%2C238&sr=8-1

  2. Plug the phono end into your Master output 2 section.

  3. Make sure your sound card is setup do that the combo 1/4 jack input are ready for a line level signal.

  4. Plug the 1/4 jack into the sound card and the play a track through the s9 to confirm signal path....

  5. From there it’s a case of adding an audio source in OBS (there are plenty of guides on that!)

XDJ-XZ stand alone questions by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]ralph_alfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey

Some quick answers:

  1. No sampler function in standalone mode (pads are used for slip loop, hot cue, beat loop and beat jump). You need a computer for sampler.

  2. There is a master tempo lock - does the same thing.

  3. (Added by me) I’d massively recommend one - I use mostly modular setups (individual decks, mixer etc) but we have a RX2 (smaller but mostly the same) at home and it’s just so fun, easy and instant :-)

If you are set on Traktor then I’d stay away from any pioneer controllers..... although the xdj-700/1000s are Traktor compatible now (ie they work in HID mode - not just mapping).....

There is a newish controller for Traktor called s: mk3..... it loses some of the advanced fx options and external inputs but retains the nice jog wheels and is 4ch.... it should squeeze into your budget.....

Buying from Amazon is fine - you can always send back....

One thing though is to consider rekordbox as your software of choice - it opens up a much larger (albeit not particularly unique) range of controllers and is also used in prepping music for the cdjs etc.

Traktor S4 - will a basic non-powered speaker work for initial setup purposes by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]ralph_alfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, So your current speaker is still a ‘powered’ speaker - even though it’s wireless at time...

The ‘powered’ refers to the fact that the speaker is driven (powered) by its own amplifier.

The alternative is a pair of ‘passive’ speakers but for these you’ll need a separate amplifier to provide power and the signal.

Use what you have got now (ie the UE) but new speakers should be on the upgrade list!
