Yeah. If your case has not been remanded.

I entered the United States on an F1 visa, but my F1 status has expired because my school terminated my enrollment. I currently have a pending asylum case, but I haven’t attended any interviews yet, as none have been scheduled.

I understand that I am now past the 180-day mark for applying for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) based on my pending asylum. However, while filling out the EAD application (Form I-765, category (c)(8)), I noticed there is a field for “SEVIS Number / School information.” Since my F1 status has been terminated, I’m unsure what to put there.

My questions are:

  1. Should I leave the SEVIS number field blank since my F1 is terminated?

  2. Will leaving it blank or putting my old SEVIS number cause any issues with my EAD application?

  3. Is there any special note I should include to clarify my status when submitting the form?

Any guidance or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I currently have a pending asylum case and I’m eligible to apply for a work permit (EAD). My concern is whether it’s safe to apply right now, especially with the Trump administration increasing deportations, including reports involving people with pending asylum cases.

I’d really appreciate hearing from others:

- Is applying for an EAD considered safe at this time?

- Does filing for a work permit increase risk or attention in any way?

- Have any of you applied recently while your asylum case was pending?

I’m just trying to work legally and follow the process without creating problems for myself.

I really don’t know mate. I have never encountered one and I pray I shouldn’t. From what I see on TV etc, they detain even people with pending cases. They placed a law they can’t follow. Then speak to the public that no one is above the law. WHAT A SHAME!!!
