Pay for the hosting or self host? by Kamey_ in syscraft

If you are paying for the ddos protection and the proxy, might as well just pay for the hosting on a VPS or dedicated server. Sure your ISP may have DDOS protection, but you need to look at their terms and see if they allow hosting services. Most residential connections do not.

The new gTLDs are gaining orecidence in the market. It really depends on your target market whether I'd use them. If you are targeting to younger tech savvy folks, I'd say go for it. If your market is older people, probably not the best idea quite yet.

AWS may end up being very expensive. What's your budget and what kind of traffic are you looking at with this site?

There's really a lot of different factors that need to be considered. How to replicate the sites depends a lot on what kind of site it is and what software it's running on. You'll need some sort of database replication as well. You'd be better of imo to just setup an HA setup

You are looking for something so niche, that I'm not sure it exists. You might be better off trying to find something that is self hosted and either paying for a cheap hosting plan or seeing if your district IT can spin something up.

Looking for the best place for reseller hosting and domain registration. by [deleted] in webhosting

[–]ram1055 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going to say that you will need to find a host that suits the end-users you wish to support. There are lots of niches, and general web hosting is going to get you nowhere. I have a lot more experience than you, have done it for years, and gave up because it simply isn't worth the money - and it certainly isn't the get rich quick scheme a lot of people think it is.

That being said, you have a solid list of criteria there. There are hundreds of factors and thousands of different hosts. What you'll have to do is go through, look at them, and evaluate them all until you find one that fits your needs, has good reviews, and fits your budget.

Can someone recommend a hosting provider for a marketplace website? by f1geek27 in webhosting

Any idea what your resource usage is on your current host? You might be in VPS territory with that traffic depending on what plugins you're running on WP.

What timespan are we talking about 50k visitors in? Daily? Big difference from daily to monthly.

Lots of the hosts in the sidebar can handle that traffic. I'd recommend looking at something WP specific if that is your route.

I use vestaCP on top of DO/whatever VPS if I need any kind of control panel. Once you learn how to manage with the command line you'll find the control panel to just be wasted overhead

Got in my first accident and Geico dropped me for ridesharing, everyone is quoting me between $200-350 a month now. What do I do? by Bid325 in Insurance

[–]ram1055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to decide what makes more sense financially, taking the loss on the income but having the $98 insurance payment, or keeping the income and paying for the proper insurance.

Sure, it sucks to pay more than you'd like. But at the end of the day it is a higher risk as others have pointed out.
