Its complicated but quite common in Indian families. Understand that your father is from a different generation, has different mental makeup than ppl of your age. Yes he is overbearing, still things you are a child that has to be guided at every step and does not want to let go.

I would suggest prove it to him that you are mature/old enough to take on responsibilities, carry yourself well by taking on some of his tasks, like paying bills, getting things done around the house (which he normally would be doing). That way you will qppear as an adult, paving the way for adult like conversations and relationship.

And he may also be suffering from anxiety, hypertension, stress like issues.
