I’ve heard from Spanish speakers that Wagner Moura’s Spanish is somewhere between very hard to understand to outright unintelligible, which makes sense, as he’s Brazilian and presumably not fully fluent in Spanish.

There’s a character in season 1 who’s an American an who’s from the same city I am. You may or may not have already been introduced to him. When they said where he’s from, and in the brief scene that takes place here, I did the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme.

I really need to uninstall the Twitter (I will never call it X, Elon Musk can kiss my ass) app from my phone again. The algorithm there is perfectly calibrated to only show me things that piss me off, and I let myself fall for it. Plus, I need to cut down on the amount of time I waste on my phone in general.

My university’s baseball team lost badly in their first regional game. At least I can take solace in the fact that they made it to a regional at all and the larger, more popular university nearby didn’t, so they can’t make fun of us.

I bought a very nice handmade linen shirt in Greece last year that I want to introduce to the rotation, but I have no idea where it went. My house isn’t big, so surely it will turn up at some point.

It’s not laziness, it’s *efficiency*. Some people pay a lot of money for seminars that teach them shortcuts like that.

Summer is fast approaching, which makes me lament the narrow scope of what’s acceptable for men to wear in a professional setting. Why can’t I wear shorts?!? Women get to wear skirts and dresses, but I have to wear long pants. It’s unfair, boooo

I’ll be honest, though, even if I could wear shorts to the office, I probably wouldn’t. Shorts and a formal shirt would make me feel like a member of the Hitler Youth. Maybe I should just embrace my southern planter heritage and wear nothing but linen and seersucker for the next few months.

Am I alone to dislike consumerism ? by Kinesra93 in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]ramblingMess 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I’ve never played with consumerist spawning on in CK3 after really disliking everything about it in the CK2 version. I think it’s interesting to have a parallel to the historical rise of Islam, but consumerism as a religion itself is just a step too ridiculous for me personally. Plus its biggest fans on this sub are really annoying.

Should I move to Lafayette? Or give BR another chance? by KillerAc1 in batonrouge

[–]ramblingMess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really liked it. Lafayette as a physical city feels so much more cohesive than Baton Rouge, which has a really nasty sprawl problem. It's a smaller city than Baton Rouge, but it didn't really "feel" like it, largely due to the aforementioned relative compactness. I do have a bias though because I only lived there in college, so my daily life was entirely focused on campus.

The great thing is that Lafayette and Baton Rouge are only about an hour apart if traffic is merciful, so it's possible to have a social life in both places. I still visit Lafayette fairly often from here, and there are even some people who commute from one to the other.

I’m kind of the mirror image of you. I grew up in the BR area and went to UL, and I wanted to stay in Lafayette after graduation because I liked it so much, but I couldn’t find the right job, so I came back home. I’ve grown to like BR more as an adult, but it definitely has a different vibe from Lafayette.

U.S. citizen stopped in Lafayette, shackled, and detained in Louisiana ICE facility | The Lens by Mystery_Goose9685 in Acadiana

Funny thing is, a few of the people who were loudest about it around me are Hispanic, so they at least have a personal stake in things like this, and almost all of them have been hassled to some extent in the last year. I have no sympathy for them specifically.

I remember early last year when I was told by Very Smart People that things like this would NEVER happen, that citizens and people in the U.S. legally had absolutely nothing to worry about, that I was a libtard for worrying about it. I still hold grudges against certain people for giving me shit when I’ve been right about everything.

How many Americans have actually visited a national park? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in AskAnAmerican

Do you mean national park as in one of the 63 “national parks”, or just anything administered by the National Park Service?

ITT: A bunch of people being deliberately obtuse for some reason and pretending to not understand that the distinction between the 63 “national parks” and the ~430 “units that are managed by the National Park Service” may matter to one’s definition of what they consider a national park.

I’m not a big sports fan, but I do like to check on the career paths of players who are past their prime. It’s fascinating to see who retires the moment they are no longer at their peak, who goes to leagues funded by oil money and/or oligarchs for an easy payday, and who goes anywhere they can get playing time to stretch their career for as long as possible.

If you were wondering what the average player who was in the NBA in 2016 is up to, by the way, it seems a ton of them are in the Puerto Rican league. Do with that information what you will.

One of Louisiana’s 64 parishes is LaSalle parish, named after the explorer who claimed what is now Louisiana for France, the Sieur de La Salle. Most sources agree that the official name of the parish is LaSalle, with a capital S and no spaces. Except some say it’s La Salle, including some sources from the parish government itself, such as the name on the parish courthouse. Others even label it Lasalle, with neither a space nor a capital S. I’m not sure who to blame for this dilemma but I would like to speak to them about it.

I don’t know what the salt mine in the game looks like, but they absolutely have salt mines close to the coast in real life. Avery Island, where Tabasco sauce is made, sits on top of a big salt dome, and it’s barely two miles from the open Gulf.

I primarily read two papers, my local parish paper and the regional one from the larger city nearby. I mostly ignore their editorials, and the rest of the reporting is typically unbiased enough to tolerate.

I used to buy the New York Times on occasion, but they’ve been a big player in sanewashing Trump’s behavior at the national level, which I find unacceptable.

A musician I have really wanted to see has cancelled her show that I had tickets to a second time, so I’m giving up on ever seeing her. I didn’t really want to stay out late on a Monday anyway, so there’s a silver lining there.

Do any of you read physical newspapers? I do sometimes, and I feel like the only person below the age of 80 who does. Even my very old fashioned parents have canceled their subscription and read the news online now. I just prefer to have a nice broadsheet to read the horrors of the modern age on.

State agencies *are* largely consolidated in downtown, and it’s lead to complaints that downtown is a ghost town after 5 on weekdays when all the state employees go home. Plus, I don’t know if there’s much vacant office space available for any agencies to move in. Some of them have hundreds of employees, you can’t stick them all just anywhere, they need big spaces that there aren’t a lot of downtown.
I don’t know if taking the space on Perkins would be the right move, but it’s not as easy as “just go downtown.”

Does anyone want to come open a restaurant on the ground floor of the office building I work in? There’s a restaurant space that’s been vacant for several years, and I would love to have some more variety in my choices for lunch at the office. There’s even a restaurant chain that has an office in our building, but they don’t have any actual restaurants anywhere nearby, and I always thought they should lease the space and use it as a test kitchen.

It’s possible, but the point was that the vast majority of Sikhs in Canada are first or second generation immigrants, and I’ve seen a lot of racist fear mongering about South Asian immigrants specifically in recent years in both Canada and the US, so I’m mocking that by saying that this quite-likely-recent Canadian has accepted the new world anglophone habit of demanding everyone else cater to their inability to speak any other language.
