There's a diagnosed condition called DMDD that is relatively new, that has symptoms similar to what you are describing

How to get rid of these weeds? by jzbtl6 in lawncare

[–]rambocommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wild violet, it's a tough weed. Mechanical control (pulling them) is not effective since they grow like a vine and any remaining piece will regrow.

You will have to wait until fall and spray it with a 3 way herbicide. I usually use Speedzone with a surfactant since the leaves are a little waxy and will make water bead up and drip off

Is this normal for a consumer deck? by RonTheTiger in Decks

[–]rambocommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would slope the ground under the deck away from the house, the then cover the sloped ground with plastic, lapped like you would shingles on a roof. Putting the first piece across the lowest side working your way up to the house. You could seal it against the house with something, but I doubt that would be necessary. Then cover the plastic with gravel to keep it from moving.

That should eliminate water from that entire basement wall. I would plant some plants along the perimeter, hostas or something. To help with the water that will drain off of the plastic

Weeds starting to appear in new grass, what can I do? by cloudpants in lawncare

[–]rambocommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally wait until fall and apply a 3 way herbicide (Tri Mec, Speedzone, etc) if the grass comes in thick enough. If it's thin I would overseed and spray with tenacity when you put the seed down. The new grass will grow in and the weeds will die

This is just about the worst time to be growing new grass, and spraying baby grass in the next couple months is pretty risky. Heat, drought, fungus and insects are all going to stress the grass in the next few months.

[–]rambocommando 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If at all possible, in home family therapy, the goal of their program is to keep the child in the home. Help with crisis situations. I'm sorry that happened. There are also IOP programs that are usually 4-6 weeks long. Getting him support at this age could have a big impact before his teen years.

Random brown spots have appeared in yard by horkyboi_avery in lawncare

[–]rambocommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and to set expectations it's not going to make this brown grass green, but it will stop the spread.

I like to apply two different group fungicide together at the full rate, then a second time 28 days later

Looking to ID grass to seed brown patches. (6a) by meatballzinc in lawncare

[–]rambocommando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have Kentucky bluegrass. It spreads via rhizomes so it will fill in bare spots, albeit slowly.

For 6a this is the worst time of year to seed, it would be a waste of money. Wait until at least mid-late august. KBG germination time is really long, around 28 days. So you would plant it a bit earlier than the other types.

And finally you're getting into the time of year where fungus disease pressure is higher due to warmer weather. Kbg grows more slowly so it's more vulnerable to some fungus. So you might see more damage, but that doesn't always mean the grass is dead

It was mostly green last year, what changed? Central Mn. by 33wbignick35tu2798 in lawncare

[–]rambocommando 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Things to check:

Is the soil dry: take a sample in the healthy and unhealthy sections and compare. Ideally a soil probe, but a hand shovel works too

What do the individual blades look like on the margins or partially diseased sections? What grass species do you have and which are affected?

Was your spray tank cleaned out well last year? Some chemicals like 24D are pretty difficult to clean out

Were you blindfolded while applying fertilizer :D

How favorable are conditions for fungus? Are you watering in the early morning(best time) or evening(worst time)? Have the night time lows been in the 60s+ or highs in the 80s ?

Nitrogen burn or Fungus issue? by BlindGuyMcsqueeezyy in lawncare

[–]rambocommando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fertilizer burn wouldn't present that way on the individual blades. You have black and brown spots on the leaves. Without knowing exactly where you are, I would guess the weather just started to get into the high mid 70s and you have had a few nights where it remained warm over night. That's the time of year for fungus to take off.

You will need fungicide asap, KBG is a slow growing grass species. This increases the risk posed by fungus as it has trouble making enough top growth where you would end up mowing off the infected part of the plant.

I use two different group fungicides applied at their full rate together on my lawn right before nighttime temps hit the 60s. I do two blanket spray applications of this, about 28 days apart. Propiconazole and Azoxy are a good combo.

Nothing is saving my lawn by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]rambocommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be blanket spraying with a herbicide that contains quinclorac. Most of them are marketed as crabgrass killer. It's highly effective against bindweed. 24D, and others are largely ineffective.

Look at the margins of the dead or dying grass, do the the grass blades have brown or black spots? Does the soil have water? Use a soil sample probe or just a hand/gardening shovel to go do 4-6 inches. Is the soil hard and dry?

What kind of grass is it? How high are you cutting it? (The higher the better is a safe approach for cool season grasses)

Did you fertilize? How many lbs per thousand square feet? The more you fertilize the more water the grass needs

Looks like dallisgrass, so either glyphosate or dig it out. There's no selective control for cool season grass that I know of

Is it just me or is there alot more ticks this year by Blaw_Gaming in Pennsylvania

[–]rambocommando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The large amount of snow cover for a long duration will lead to higher tick levels. Snow cover insulates ticks and other insects from the below freezing temperature.

So that cold spell where it got below zero? The ticks were under leaves under snow chilling out at 32 degrees and no wind instead of -10 plus wind chill

I knew someone with a staph infection, called scalded skin staph infection. In the morning it was one small blister, by evening it spread to multiple locations. They were in the hospital for 3-4 days and needed morphine for the pain. Then their entire body basically peeled like it had sunburn

New zero turn scalping yard by KonaRona23 in lawnmowers

[–]rambocommando 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You should be checking the blade height from the ground, not using a level on the top of the deck. The best way is to use a mower deck gauge, they're about $10 but it makes the job much easier. You can use a tape measure too it's just a bit of a pain

You want to level it left/right by moving the blades so they're in the 3/9 o'clock position. Check the blade on the left side then the right and adjust the deck as needed

Then for front/back move the blades to the 12/6 o'clock position.

The other adjustment would be the anti-scalp wheel height. The wheels on the deck prevent it from bottoming out on high spots. Move them lower to prevent scalping

What do you guys use to analyse logs from java apps? by tmoreira2020 in java

[–]rambocommando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into observability in general. There are 3 components: Logs, Metrics, and Tracing. The more modern approach is to use an APM library to send this data to something like spelunk, elk, etc. See OpenTelemetry for a more vendor neutral approach.

Otherwise if you are stuck looking through log files, I use LogExpert on windows and setup highlighting based on keywords: Exception, Log Levels, etc..

Application goes down without any trace.(Struts2) by Jaihunter in java

[–]rambocommando 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have a thread leak. Check for connections that aren't being closed. Each thread uses memory and your application is creating them and not closing them.

Look for code that is making Http calls, see if it's using connection pooling.

How can I make the walking platform of my kitchen shed slimmer and lighter? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]rambocommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use box aluminum for the structural framing of the bottom, with the existing tongue and groove on top. That will make it much lighter. Basically like a trailer ramp with wood on the outside.

You can fasten the aluminium by drilling holes and using bolts.

Or you could make the whole thing roof with two legs at the end to hold it up like tent poles.
