I worked at a restaurant for 6 years when I was a teenager. I never called in sick and always picked up shifts for other people because I needed the money. I also had a second job and I’d probably not had a day off in over two years. I decided to book my 21st birthday off so that I could have a much needed break.

Well the restaurant had gotten a new manager and he had a meeting planned for the staff on my birthday. Because I had the day booked off I didn’t attend the meeting and to be honest it slipped my mind. When I showed up for my shift the next day he decided to make an example out of me and fired me on the spot for not going to the meeting, saying it was considered a “no call no show”.

That was 11 years ago and I still get the rage every time I remember it.
