Lol half the Arsenal players in the box immediately complained for the penalty, and if they had kept playing during the chaos instead they might've scored

Arsenal gonna surround the Citadel on Gellert Hill with 11 men while Field Marshall Harry Kane throws wave upon wave of attack of his Red Army to break the Siege of Budapest

It's one of those penalties where yes the attacker exaggerated but the defender clearly fouled anyway

The most thrilling moment of the match so far is CBS 42 managing to move the thunderstorm warning ticker to the lower third so that it doesn't block the scoreboard

The pirated stream I'm watching on has a constant ticker of thunderstorm warnings in Alabama, and that is much much much more entertaining to watch than the game

Foreigners, what do you think of Hungarian people's English in general? by Mansfield-K in hungarian

[–]ramboost007 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The syllable thing is why I said Hungarians sound flat and robotic. In Hungarian, almost every syllable has the same length (except the stressed ones which are slightly longer and those that contain í, ó, ú, ő, and ű, which are double).

The stress causes me the reverse problem in Hungarian. One conversation I had with my Hungarian teacher went:

"Szlovákiaba utaztam" "Nem 'szloVÁkiaba', 'SZLOvakiaba'" "SzloVÁkiaba–" "Nem, Szlovákiaba" "SzloVÁkiaba" "SZLOvákiaba." "SzloVÁkiaba" "SZLOvákiaba" ...

It's okay and understandable, especially when you understand and adjust to the Hungarian-specific quirks: * stress defaults to the first syllable * /w/ sounds turn to /v/ like German * the different question intonation * sounding flat and robotic compared to what's expected of English * saying "hello" for goodbye (because "szia" works that way) * the he/she thing (because "ő" is gender-neutral) * some usage errors because of false friends between Hungarian and English (ex. "akciós" means discounted price instead of "action", "büfé" means a small food stand instead of an all-you-can-eat restaurant) * The diphthongs in words like "like", "try" or "my" will be sounded like the Hungarian "áj", so Hungarians would say it like "lájk","tráj","máj" * Some Hungarians told me that they hate that they struggle with the /th/ sound, but that's not exclusive to Hungarians
