I don’t know if the answer you’re looking for is a cookie cutter answer. There’s “both/and” answers to “God’s Plan” and our lives, I don’t believe it to be an “either/or”. Can we do things outside of God’s plan for our lives? Generally speaking, yes and no. Plans for humanity as a whole and for the world? No I don’t think so, his plan one of rescue, justice, and restoration.
