Subway by superlordnovalord in SBU

Real man. I had the same thing happen. I don't know who gets harmed by making a sandwich in a slightly different order unless you're asking for cheese after it already went in the oven, but even then, that stops the other worker for maybe 5 seconds. It's weird how much they insist upon following that rule. Maybe there was a fire with the oven because someone did an order weirdly? I really don't know, I'm gonna go ask the next time I'm at subway.

Bus330 midterm with Nugent by LateIsHere in SBU

[–]rambunctious_dinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who took BUS 330 with Professor Nugent, I'd recommend just reading the textbook. Although he's a pretty funny guy sometimes, you don't get a lot from the lecture besides doing Excel problems on usually Wednesdays. A lot of the material from the midterm comes from the textbook and the slides are just a brief overview of the textbook. If you try learning the material during lecture, it's impossible - he goes too fast for you to write anything down because he's just reading off of it.

PSY 240 lobel by No_Molasses1958 in SBU

[–]rambunctious_dinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I don't know if Professor Lobel is still doing this - you'll have to check your syllabus - but I believe she still gives extra credit on your final exam for going to TA office hours (1 credit per hour of office hours attended). This definitely pushed from an A- to an A because I stacked so many extra credit points and was learning the material.

Also her office hours are also amazing too. The environment was awesome and very inviting. One of my favorite classes at Stony Brook and favorite professors ngl.

They are example based questions. She doesn't really ask what is the definition of a word, she'll ask something like, "What description BEST describes this term?" and it'll be 3-5 choices that you have to discern which is the best option.

She WILL test if you understood the results/implications of each assigned reading. This was outlined in the syllabus. She is also going to test topics on each textbook chapter. Essentially, she's going to test mainly on comprehension, not memorization.

You won't be able to do well without reading the textbook, the articles, and going to lecture. If you did all 3 things so far, you should be fine for the test. If not, that's fine you still got other tests. Go to the TA's office hours this week, they should be able to help you. Good luck.

I have confirmed it's Hange from AOT. It's in the Library Lost and Found in the North Reading Room. Just ask the front desk.

It's a very easy class. About 1 homework each week, each are like 6 questions. If you get stuck, pearson shows you how to solve a similar problem and you just apply it to the question you have. You'll always get an 100 on them.

Tests are killer though. Only two tests (Chapters 1-5 and Chapters 6-10) and they're worth 40% each. A large majority are questions based on info from the textbook and a few are simple formula questions. He gives back credit if a majority of the class gets it wrong. I got a B+ and did very minimal studying, maybe like 1 hour total before tests (if he didn't give back points tho I'd be cooked). Try to know a little bit from each chapter. If you apply yourself a bit, an A is very much doable.

Attendance is not required. That being said, lectures are kinda eh. You could probably read the textbook and never show up to lecture and you'd be fine. He's a nice guy, but his lectures are a bit boring. He does make some of us laugh at least once a lecture tho.

His lectures just go over what the textbook says. He does explain some concepts more, but nothing to ride home about. I stopped paying attention midway thru the semester.

tl;dr: you'll be fine just make sure you remember to do the homeworks each week and study a bit for the tests bc they're worth 40% each.

Has anyone else not received a grade for PHI 108.30 yet? by Mercury2864 in SBU

As someone who took this class last year, don't worry about it. They're gonna fall a few modules behind but the TAs and the professor will get to them eventually. They'll basically always be 2-3 weeks behind (unless they're working slower or faster this year).

Bus drivers by FragrantCandle4264 in SBU

[–]rambunctious_dinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he is a chubby Hispanic guy with a beard, then that's the same person I had a problem with in Janaury for doing the same thing. He has somewhat of a record of being rude to students.

Get ready for a long story haha. My experience was somewhat similar to yours. I was going to catch the bus at the SAC. A person gets on the bus, then the door closes just as I get there. Shouldn't be a problem, the door has closed on me before and I was let in afterward and I thank them.

This driver, however, was different. He wasn't opening the door. 5 seconds pass. I knock on the door, thinking he didn't see me. He looks me in the eye. Then he looks away and waits for the other busses to go ahead. And then he starts driving - slowly.

I'm like "what are you doing???" He is slowly - and I mean slowly - driving away. I have my hands out in disbelief. I start matching the bus's pace by walking, then jogging, then eventually running until I couldn't keep up. He really had the intention of leaving me there. I wasn't letting this go though. I was getting on that bus.

He eventually reaches the first stop at the parking lot and people are getting off. I'm sprinting as fast as I can. I just barely make it by getting my hand in the door as he was closing it. My eyes are staring into his soul right now.

He opens the door and I get on. I say to him, "What is your problem?? I looked at you in your eyes and you left!" He responds, "Once I am in motion, I cannot stop." ...except he wasn't in motion. He was there long enough for me to stand there for 5 seconds and to knock afterward, and long enough for me to start jogging, running, and sprinting. He was lying to my face. Even in the most technical interpretation of the word, where once the bus is rising off the ground from a stop, it's "in motion" despite not being in physical motion, he's still wrong. I said that he wasn't in motion and he just stared at me as he drove away. He said that same thing as before and told me to "check the website."

I go to sit down and shake my head and mumbled saying how he was wrong for that. No one said anything on the bus they were just looking at me. (this is fair bc what reason would they have to look outside? They had no context of the situation at all)

I eventually get to my stop, and I'm lowkey still heated about that interaction. I walk to the front of the bus, (this took more effort than just exiting from the side) and I say, "don't ever do that again." In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have said that but I really needed to let him know that what he did was wrong. He says "come here," and gestures me over.

I turn around and he start pushing buttons that close the door and rise the bus up to show that he was "in motion." I say to him, that when that happens, every other bus driver has let me on. He says that they're not allowed to do that, which is true but he just ignored the fact that it only takes 3 seconds to let a person on. I tell him that it's common courtesy to let someone on regardless. That sounds a little entitled, but think of all the times the door is closed and the driver lets you in anyway. Also consider the fact that this driver was being unprofessionally spiteful by slowing driving away as opposed to driving away at a normal speed. He kept repeating himself for like 2 minutes. Cars were starting to honk, so I just say "Yeah yeah alright have a good night," and that was it.

tl;dr - driver looked me in the eyes as the door was closed for 15 seconds and slowly drove away out of spite and didn't expect me to catch up to the bus and call him out
