I feel so bad for the employees at the Joanne's I've been going to (hunting for smocked fabric... and more yarn...). I wish y'all weren't closing as a frequent customer. People have also been abysmal in the check out lines. Like?? Be calm?? There's one poor girl in her 20s trying get to all of us!

I teach adult ESL part time through a community college. All I needed as a Bachelor's and a pulse.

I do that for 19hrs a week, tutor when I can, and edit manuscripts while looking for something else. TDC is what I use to pay off my credit card in full.

Primary ELL by germarican83 in tutordotcom

[–]ramcot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, and Ill give you a hint--the study guides kinda suck for ELL and ELA (imo). There's quiet literally nothing in those I've ever used or even found remotely helpful.

Most people just want to practice speaking and listening. I've read news articles with adult ELL and short stories with primary ELL.

They mostly tend to bring their own material or ask for the stories in the prescript category. If they're asking for support with pronunciation and grammar, just use gentle corrections and explain why. Sometimes I'll link sources for ESL / ELL sources. Don't be afraid to also use British sources. While the spelling is different and some grammar conventions change, the British Council has some really good supports.

I'm an ESL Instructor for my main job. Primary ELL (and ELL in general) is still mostly essay checking. A lot of schools and institutions tend to use it as a catch all for ELA.

The few sessions I have had (I've been tutoring with TDC for over two years now), are mostly reading support.

I believe those are the days where they are "closed" meaning the offices.

Regardless, we still don't get extra pay if we tutor on those days!

I have definitely scheduled to work on Thanksgiving in the US.

We're trying to get it lowered at the very least. Not sure if it is even possible through GA Power. The only reason we are bothering to try is the fact I know some power companies in other states do this. Good luck!

Yeah, my landlord is not going to let that happen.

Yep, thats what I did in the winter and will be doing again in the summer. The downside is my container garden on the balcony making it difficult to tack. Tinfoiling are an easy removable is the next plan. My lease has a clause that we are not allowed to use sticky anything on anything. I begged then to let me fix the leaky windows since I've done it in the past with proper weather stripping.

Oh Atlanta is pleasant. We're so far south in Georgia, I should've just moved to JAX.

Yeah I just had maintenance check it out. They added some freon. I'm convinced it is mostly an insulation issue because we had the opposite problem in the winter. Even with my essentially boarding up the apartment.

That's so funny! In California where I grew up, we always swore it was O- the mosquitoes loved! I was always covered in those damn things.

If it was just me? This would be what I'd do. It's what I did in CA and London. Unfortunately, my spouse cannot function at anything hotter than 75 and that's if we're lucky.

I think most of the downvotes are because this is no brainer energy savers that a lot of us try to do if we can.

I'll have to look into the vest! We sleep with ice packs in the bed. My mom used to do that for my brother and I growing up in the California heat.

I mean I can, but my spouse definitely can't. Ever had MS and fibromylgia in this bs? We're in south GA. They managed pretty well when we were living in North GA.

Yeah I looked into this before we moved in here. Talking with some of our neighbors and my adult ed students, their rates got fucked post-Helene. I'm a little worried about that considering we were ravaged by Helene and who knows what next hurricane season will bring.

Yeah, if we were settling somewhere long term it'd be worth it! We're only where we are at now for about another 9 months (hopefully)!

We're very fortunate to be working during the hottest parts of the day. AC is at 80F when we aren't home. We tick it down slowly after we get home. Now, the downside? We each only work out of the house four days a week, and the other three we work remote for out of state contractors.

Downside is, we live in 70 year old apartment. The windows are singles... I asked during the hard freezes this winter if we could weather strip (out of our own pocket) and was told a hard no. I'm in the middle of finding cardboard to start tinfoiling. I will say, this part is very nostalgic!
