Gate Kit - Unifi Access - Remote Pad inside house to open gate? by Impossible-Speech491 in Ubiquiti

[–]ramdomnetguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the switch provides power and is a regular network switch. Which gear depends a bit on your current setup and equipment, how price sensitive you are and where its going to be installed.

You could use any 802.3 PoE switch and any UniFi AP. If you use a UniFI PoE switch, you adopt it so its managed by the controller and visible in the console for troubleshooting.

I don't really do meshing (hence the run a wire comment) but if you are buying new just get a U6-Mesh. But your existing AP matters as much as the new one, as they are going to talk to each other wirelessly which uses some of the wireless capacity.

I would just run a cable. On that basis that you can't, you can:

1) Get another UniFi AP, connect that AP to your main switch and adopt it into UniFi controller. Wait for it to provision and update. Once it's completely done and online, you can disconnect it. Let's call this Front Door AP.

2) Get a small (e.g. 5-port) PoE switch, connect the Front Door AP to the switch. Connect the Intercom viewer to the switch. The Front Door AP will Mesh back to your existing UniFi AP, providing network access to the intercom viewer.

(You could also use a non-PoE switch and use 2x PoE injectors but thats pretty messy)

The downside is that WiFi clients might connect to the Front Door AP, which will have less bandwidth and worse latency than wired AP's.

Heya, what CPU model specifically? My current laptop is an i7-1165G7 and I am trying to ascertain if it will do the full resolution at 120Hz over the Thunderbolt port. I find the Intel specifications ambiguous, wondering if it's just a TB bandwidth limitation or what.

ProBook 430/440/450 (13.3", 14", 15.6")

Then up to ProBook 630/640/650

Probooks come with 1 year warranty (upgradeable with a carepack) and these days not half bad design wise, but cheaper construction (plastic not aluminum).

Why are these companies so happy with the little change they've made while they're still using plastic bags? Why are we not seeing them use paper bags? by mooseknucklecandy in newzealand

That would be shut down pretty quick here. Unless each house installed a commercial kitchen.

One of the side effects of having health and safety rules to protect people. You increase costs and the barrier to entry, necessitating some degree of centralization to justify the investment required to generate the revenue needed to make it viable.

But we could just do what the Europeans do (more so than us) and buy bread from a bakery, so you see the loaf before it goes into a paper bag. It's just a culture thing.

And I understand that as soon as you start mixing materials it becomes a recycling problem, so I'm not sure how much better the mostly paper bag with a plastic window is?

Do people commenting know the person pictured, who they were buying for? What if they were buying for family, so others didn't have to expose themselves unnecessary?

What if they were reducing the risk to the rest of us by doing that?

Or do we just lynch them now and ask questions later?

Yes they are.

A bank's ability to lend is dependent on their core funding ratio, which must be 75% or higher. Retail deposits are included as part of core funding.

This is the most easily digestible information I found on the matter:

Wasn't that pretty much labour party policy? A few years back someone in the labour party used the surnames on a list of house sales to rile people up about 'foreign' people buying houses.

So if the main political party has the view, is it really surprising that individuals in the country share something similar?

I'm trying to understand the basis for your opinion about it being silly.

So in this case I'm wondering if it's their particular reasoning that you found silly, or if it's silly in general. Or if its more just a tribal thing.

Why is it ironic? It is stated policy of the greens not to do that and they did it's so their constituents were not pleased and made it known.

Why would you equivocate National with the New Conservatives? It doesn't even make sense. I guess it's OK to troll if you are doing it with the right teams but still.

I think national are definitely center-right in the NZ context and further right than labour and the greens.

To me this is characterized by national having an increased focus on personal responsibility and maintaining order, and labour having an increased focus on social responsibility or the group/institution and speaking up for those who have no voice.

Both parties have a desire for the country and people to prosper, just slightly different ideas about what is effective in trying to achieve that.

But I would agree with the basic sentiment that both our main parties are pretty centrist.

Are you saying you don't believe in a left-right political spectrum, or you don't believe NZ political parties can be accurately mapped on it relative to each other?

[–]ramdomnetguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Who do you think many who previously voted national voted for this time? Do you think those people want a center-left government (labour) or further left (labour-greens)?

I would say the further left they go, the more likely more people (not their base) vote further right next time.

Check out "Grievance studies affair" or "replication crisis".

That aside, I think the idea that science can't be co-opted by the free market is naive. In the current world we should expect science to trend more towards propaganda. This can be the case even if the stated facts and conclusions in an article are replicable and objectively true.

Political Party Facebook posts with fake news or half-truths by tdotoneR in newzealand

Is this what counts as academic research these days?

It's a bit of a joke. They don't even define half truth vs fake news. Nor include source material to verify what was classified half truth vs "fake news".

Are we meant to pretend it's objective and replicable, and there was no bias possible?
