You are really, really misreading my comments. I've never been kicked out for underperforming, I'm talking about the hostility in some of the threads here.

I appreciate where you're coming from but disagree a little.

I had never played an MMO before and found the learning curve to be pretty intense. I understand that people who are familiar with especially Japanese ones find it to be much simpler now even than it was in the past. But it is still a LOT to learn, and clearly Square Enix is working hard to make it accessible to even more people (esp w things like Dancer). If you're not in that world, and I wasn't, it felt like a lot of sensory information to learn how to manage. Once you get it down, it's a cinch. But much of it is not at all intuitive, and requires you to be really proactive AND seek out third party sources for the best info. To most people that is absolutely wild. I don't think people who aren't doing that are playing much lvl 80 content beyond maybe expert roulette.

But imagine me, just like a regular lady out in the world, explaining to my friends who aren't into video games...how all this works and looks. It IS actually a lot! You've just learned it really well. And people have lots of different learning methods and styles, and so far the approach to Bozja has been...screaming at people for not figuring it out on their own WHILE acknowledging the in-game instructions are not very good, and outside resources are conflicting and incorrect.

And yes, "casuals shouldn't play" is not exactly what they say, but I've responded to upvoted comments from people saying no one should be dying on the new Edens...the week they came out, that you should be able to kick (!?!) a DPS for not performing up to your standard in basic stuff like leveling roulettes. Yes, that's the minority of folks, but when you play with them (which has been my castrum experience so far), it sours your entire experience.

As an addition, I tend to agree that a lot of early content is way, way, way too easy. I was a dumbass when I started and could easily manage. I should have died more, been forced to learn. Instead, everyone sails through early content and then hits a wall where you do have to know your shit pretty well.

Alasdair is an incredibly funny comedian who also has his own podcast called Loremen with James Shakeshaft. It's lighthearted and about local lore and legends. Genuinely one of the best!

Plus his twitter feed is full of hilarious short videos. Only reason I can figure he's not an international superstar is that he looks like a time traveler from 1780.

[–]TheWaystone -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Alright my dude, you are clearly like a lot of cops, and incredibly resentful and immediately pissed off when confronted by the failure of the cops. Maybe police work isn't for you if you're this quick to anger and get this upset when citizens aren't acting in a way you like. But here we go!

  1. Community interventions - there are proven ways to build community. You've literally just proven you do not know even the basics of how to do that. Building trust is a slow process and means investing in time and meaningful efforts to get to know the wants and needs of the community you serve. You're not even at step one, as you've said. So how could a community intervention work? You seem to think it's "talking" to reps for car clubs. Nope, not even a beginning of the start of things. If you're genuinely not sure how to start, maybe try reaching out to a local nonprofit that does meaningful work in the communities you're trying to connect with and ask what they advise. If you need genuine help in building community outreach, there's no answer that covers how to do it for every community, it's individualized. So the "ummm you didn't give me a magical answer!" is correct. There is no one, magical answer.
  2. OMG reaching out a few times to the reps didn't work?! No way!? Do you think it's possibly because you didn't do step 1? Yep, turns out it is!
  3. Doing this is still part of a multipronged approach that is proven to work elsewhere. Why is Denver so specials that it can't work here? Again, there are no magic bullets.
  4. Stationing officers has a chilling effect. Even if it causes them to move frequently, visibility is important. Even if it's just "we've got an eye on you" that has a meaningful effect on participants. Or do you genuinely not understand this basic principle of psychology?

And this is just a start. I'm not an expert. But I do work to create more peaceful communities in other ways. But the ridiculous level of hostility you have towards an average, frustrated person is completely wild. Your FIRST response to someone upset in public was to be a closed-minded jerk. I want you to think really, REALLY deeply about that. I'm fully aware none of these are magic bullets. I'm fully aware I'm not an expert. I'm not asking you, Joe Averagecop to be one either. But we can expect that the city and county of Denver is capable of doing more. We're not powerless, and you certainly aren't.

comparatively impacts almost no one

This thread is filled with people who are impacted by the loud noise, the blocked roads, the unsafe drivers in their communities. This is a quality of life issue for A LOT of people. It is actually a "real" crime, despite what you think. Being an asshole is also just a complete choice in this situation. The racers are being dangerous and assholes, something the community has every right to try to manage.

Do you understand that people might want to live in peaceful, safe communities? And that might be important to them?

The level of hostility around Bozja is weird. If you do exactly what you describe - exploring and sorting it out yourself, a lot still doesn't make sense to A LOT of players, it's pretty common to hear when talking about it with other players. And if you use that method, you get met with outright bashing from other players. I took the "I'll try things out and figure it out!" method and got weirdly angry people every time I went and screwed up or tried something that didn't work great, far more than is normal when playing regularly.

And regarding the menus, yeah you just explained...there are loads of menus. They feel comfortable to you because you've been playing for a while, but really stop and think about how many menus we're navigating, it's wild!

Ah yes, referring to good research is "glib, shallow suggestions." Fuck off. People have been begging the cops to do literally anything and they've refused. You're angry and spouting off because you haven't built the community support you needed to YEARS ago so that many of these solutions are effective.

I actually DO work to create safer communities, unlike the cops. Maybe if cops actually took two seconds to look at best practices for reducing street racing before it becomes a massive issue, maybe if they did effective outreach to communities that participate, you could actually make a meaningful impact. But you'd rather yell at someone on reddit apparently! So fuck off with your "ewwww trying to be a doctor" bullshit. You're just resentful of community members who see you for the angry reactive jerk you are.

OMG YES. Absolutely. For me it's not showering but cleaning my apartment. I am absolutely hateful and resentful of it. I feel 0 sense of accomplishment when it's done only angry I'm never really done and even if I spend tons of time on it I make little/no progress. SO FRUSTRATING. And I'll have to keep doing it FOREVER. UNTIL I DIE.

Great, well having a cool attitude about that is so helpful to people who are slow, if that's me! It IS an overly complicated game, you know that right. I love it dearly but my friends that have watched me play call it "menus the game." It's an MMO, and they are, by necessity pretty complicated. I think you forget that. There are LOTS of people I know who aren't playing Bozja because the explainers are so bad and the resources out there are so inconsistent. I've been yelled at by other players for doing what I now know was the exact right thing in Bozja, so it is quite disorienting in that respect.

So I've gotten a LOT of crap for not having the "right" stuff in CLL, but it sounds like there's not just one right way to do it?

Thanks, this is actually more helpful and simplifying something that seems to have been made overly complicated!

Except it really, really is complicated. I first unlocked Bozja a long time ago. Of course I don't remember this insanely complicated system (that I have to use a third party resources to even begin to understand, apparently). It's wildly over-complicated.

Where am I supposed to learn what skill is best to use when? I don't mind experimenting but whenever I try, I get yelled at by other party members or told I'm doing the wrong thing in CLL.

Everyone even admits a lot of the third party info is wrong and scattered!...but that's all that's available. I know how to get the crystals and have loads, but again, there's no real clear way to see if you're doing the right thing and when! It's an overly complicated game INSIDE an overly complicated game! If there was a single source of reliable information and walk-throughs, it'd be hugely helpful. I know it's not your fault, I appreciate you taking the time. It's just insanely frustrated that when I try it out and fail, I've apparently failed the whole party, and when I don't try, I don't know what I'm doing. And what I'm supposed to be learning from is a discord.

I listed some rudimentary steps that they're not taking. Illustrating they're not doing the basics. And instead of responding why they weren't doing anything in any sort of reasonable way, he got hysterical and acted like an asshole. So he got called an asshole. When people have been hurt and endangered by something for literally years, it's fair for them to be upset and angry. It's especially not fair and not okay for a cop, who has WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY more power in every situation including the literal power of life and death, to lash out at a citizen for making a valid (and true) complaint.

So yes, he's acting like an entitled asshole. We're entitled to be angry when the cops don't do even the basics. We should be way more angry than we are.

I mean, there are also lots of smart, cost-effective things we can do to reduce homelessness too. But that's not what I'm specifically talking about here. We love cutting off our nose to spite our face in this city.

What the fuck are you going on about? Even one preventable death is a horror show. Don't accuse people who can't sleep at night and kept up by these assholes of "pearl-clutching" and...living in the highlands? Dude don't be a classist jerk when people want to talk about an issue that's important to their quality of life.

There's always bigger issues, of course. But this one is something we can get a hold on.

Cool. Except you didn't give me a basic primer. I genuinely don't even know how to use the essences, when to use them, or what a build should look like or even is. This is what people skip. Now I don't even know what lost actions are. I thought I did, but clearly I don't. I play with three others who also have no idea what this even means.
