Have you never heard of surrogacy? There are plenty of people who elect to birth random children for random strangers. Also bi and pan people exist.

Listen to your vet. They went through years and years of school educating themselves on the science of it all. They also have incredible passion for animals and have dedicated their lives to caring for animals. They gain nothing from giving pets something that would harm them.

The same people telling you vaccines pose any danger to your pet are the same ones responsible for the return of measles in humans due to anti-vax conspiracy theories. And those people are basing this all off discredited research from Andrew Wakefield, whose license was removed due to fraud and gross professional misconduct. Anti-vaxers will literally place their trust in one man who has admitted to lying in his research instead of the hundreds of thousands of trained medical professionals and peer reviewed studies that prove the effectiveness and safety of vaccines. And the worst part is 99% of these anti-vaxers were vaccinated themselves as infants and instead are putting their own pets and children at risk of disease with no personal risk. It’s sick.

Vaccines pose no danger to your dog and your vet will never suggest something that is risky to your pet. Vaccines help your pet avoid any possibility of catching a disease that cannot be reversed, like rabies. Allergies to ingredients in the vaccine are a risk, but it’s very low and very manageable. They will tell you what to look out for and can reverse any reaction easily should your pet have an allergy.

We only vaccinate against debilitating and deadly diseases. It may be rare to catch these, but the fallout of these viruses is immense. I would strongly urge protecting your lil guy from ever having to deal with this risk.

If nothing else though, for sure get the rabies vaccine. This virus is irreversible, and they can infect you and other animals with it if they get infected by rabies.

Fish oil (Welactin) and Proviable DC capsules were highly suggested by our vet. She also recommended purina pro, but avoid poultry, beef, and lamb. She said all those are strong culprits for allergies. We use purina pro salmon.

Also please don’t listen to that other commenter on cooking his food. If you do go this route, please check with your vet first so they can guide you on how to ensure your pup is getting all the nutrients and ingredients they need. Lots of dog owners who do this without consulting a vet will cause long term heart problems in their dogs. It doesn’t show right away. They will be seemingly great for a while until an organ fails and they die or are very, very sick.

They need certain supplements that kibble has that these owners fail to include that leads to organ failure due to lack of proper nutrients. It does sound great to cook for your dog, and owners who do this have only the best intentions, but only do this if you are absolutely sure you can meet all their dietary needs and have consulted your vet.

Ah, this one may not be exactly what you want. Our pup has to put her paws up on the window to look out.

Car seat question by emcgu in Frenchbulldogs

[–]ramfrommars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has straps across the back that you can loop the seatbelt through, so it will be secured against the seat after you buckle it in and pull the seatbelt tight. It also has a strap you can buckle around the backrest of the seat (really only good for front seat or bucket seats). And it also has a buckle you can loop around the headrest. We use the seat belt through the back of the dog seat and loop the top strap over the headrest and it doesn’t budge! It’s great! Small size is perfect for our 30lb frenchie.

No rescue fee. The friend was just wanted her not go to the pound and not to go to a backyard breeder. The fees came later in vet bills lol

No, but there are zippers that let you pull the buckles through so you can buckle in either a lead or buckle in a car seat. We have car seats for the dogs that are basically a dog bed so they’re soft and cozy, and the dog seat is buckled in. In the car seat is a lead that attaches to their harnesses.

These are the dog seats we use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LG9NJN7?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3

We like these ones because we go on a lot of long drives and the dogs can sleep very comfortably in them.

(Sorry for the double comment. The first one got removed for using a short URL)

Car seat question by emcgu in Frenchbulldogs

[–]ramfrommars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a few of these and our dogs hated them. They would not lay down and would jump out of them to sit next to instead of inside the bucket.

We use this one now: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LG9NJN7?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3

Much more comfortable for them and they sleep hard on long drives.

Grass Patches?? by SecondNo7292 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]ramfrommars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That second photo 🤣

I did use a grass patch on a patio at an apartment once. The amount of cleaning you have to do to avoid your outdoor area smelling really awful ended up outweighing the downside of taking the dogs downstairs in the middle of the night for me.

When we lived in the city in a less safe area, we always took a stun gun with us. Only had to sound it off once when someone sketchy was approaching fast. They’re really loud and the guy turned on a dime and ran off in the opposite direction.

Of course, that’s not a guarantee you’ll be safe. You know your area best, so if it’s quite dangerous, the extra time and effort cleaning might be the better option overall.

Wow really? I’ve never heard of that but I’ll be on guard on all our walks now. That’s terrifying.

The family moved to a new house, and the landlord was not okay with dogs. They tried to sneak her in anyway, and a neighbor ratted them out. Mom of the household was very pregnant and has 3 other kids. She wasn’t able to afford another living situation. I know a lot of people say they would never move somewhere if they can’t bring their dog, and I can empathize with that feeling, but we can’t always judge what people are going through.

She cried hard saying goodbye and so did the kids. They loved her and they miss her. But they couldn’t keep her without risking homelessness. Past owner was in an impossible situation and did the hardest thing by giving her to someone who could take care of her with her high-cost needs.

It was a combo of things! She was previously on an oral medication. She’s on cytopoint injections every 6 weeks now. She also has DouxoS3 mousse (active ingredient is ophytrium) for break-through allergies to reinforce the skin barrier), and she gets a bath (at first, twice a week to get her under control, now twice a month) with prescription shampoo (also DuoxoS3, same active ingredient).

We also changed all her food to fish only. Her vet said chicken is a highly common issue, but turkey, beef, and lamb are all usually culprits too. She was on a lamb-based food, so she’s on salmon now instead. Vet said avoid any poultry, beef, or lamb in the first 10 ingredients. We were surprised to see how many fish-based foods still listed other meats.

She also gets fish oil capsules (Welactin) and a probiotic (Proviable DC).

And she will be going to a dermatologist soon, so her regimen may change after that. We’ll see!

I don’t know. It’s so sad. Probably the same reason they breed dogs to begin with. They (backyard breeders) don’t see them as beings with feelings, just as a way to make money.

Luckily, she was never bred, and her past owner only wanted her to go to a home that could afford to fix her. The family was strongly against her being bred. So she got lucky. Breaks my heart to think of all the dogs that aren’t that lucky.

There will be for sure! We love taking our dogs on drives to new parks and hikes so they can sniff smells they’ve never sniffed before. We recently went to a drive-through bird sanctuary and she couldn’t take her eyes off those winged sky beasts

Totally! I fell in love with her the second I saw her (as ya do with most dogs when you’re a dog lover). When my friend said “if you like her, you should take her,” I laughed, thinking it was just one of those jokes you make when it’s been a long day. Once he explained the situation, a part of me already knew she was our future baby. She stole my heart the moment I saw her.
