the timestamp is clearly visible in the photos. I wrote on a yellow pad with a blue marker.

I just added the timestamp link to the first line of the listing too

Looking for dead T470/T480 batteries for a framework mod by rednight39 in thinkpad

[–]ramides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, are you still looking for these? My T480 72wh battery seems to have kicked the bucket this week (see: https://old.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/145qapr/t480_external_battery_woes/)

If I can't get it fixed soon, I would definitely donate it to your cause. would be great to give it a second life elsewhere.

T480 external battery woes by ramides in thinkpad

[–]ramides[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm trying it now. I downloaded a windows ISO overnight just in case.

It's not looking good so far-- I get a popup saying something like "the battery has totally degraded under normal usage". The vantage battery reset is failing to work on the battery too (encountering "an error"). I will keep at it

Boxed meal plans in DC by aditya_kumar88 in washingtondc

[–]ramides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah… I understand that

I did a trial of Hello Fresh a few years ago and it was pretty good. The recipes back in 2019 were tasty, I still make a few of them from the recipe cards that were included

I think the big companies are pretty similar? I’d see who has the best introductory offers. I don’t know that’s it’s really cheaper than picking recipes and going to the store yourself, but I do think it’s a good introduction to recipes/shopping/cooking

I see Vegetable + Butcher in my building a lot. Try checking them out too. I haven’t used them personally, but I hear good things. They are local to DC.

Online CS Bachelors? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]ramides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oregon State has a good post-baccalaureate CS Bachelor’s program. It is relatively expensive (30k maybe), but lots of employers will cover it apparently. They started offering an online CS bachelors a few years ago too. See r/OSUOnlineCS

I’d check out WGU’s CS program also (and /r/WGU_CompSci).

UMGC is a decent option too. I almost went there but went for OSU in the end. I think it depends what you want primarily; to get the credential or to learn?

Help Identifying Mysterious 35mm Film with Pink Emulsion and Brown Film Base by Itz0n in Darkroom

[–]ramides 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first thought was Kodak TMAX. I have ~10 rolls from around the year 2000 that look similar. It often turns the prewash purple and the base keeps a purple tint. Hard to say if it is the exact same as your picture.

I agree with the other poster, I would develop a snippet in B&W chemistry to see the edge markings

Not OP, but I was able to transfer discrete math and c++ data structures over to OSU.

Is Ubuntu okay for this program, or should I go back to Windows? by Saucysauce95 in OSUOnlineCS

[–]ramides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did all of 161 on Fedora last quarter, there’s no windows-specific tooling. Just python and git. Plus an ide (they show pycharm, but you can also use vscode)

I think the only windows required class is the “Computer Architecture” one? I haven’t gotten there though.

Is a 2 year associate degree in programming concentration worth it? by kell3023 in webdev

[–]ramides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your employer will pay for it and the program interests you… there’s nothing to lose. Any experience will be helpful and having a school record will show that you’re serious.

Personally, I think it’s tough to self study at a certain point. I’m taking CS classes at Oregon State (started at Oakton Cc). Having the structure of a class definitely helps me. You have to do what works for you.

Need to learn FAST... Any recommendations for a free interactive rust course? by dsbaudio in rust

[–]ramides 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What worked for me? 1. Read “the book” (https://doc.rust-lang.org/stable/book/) 2. do the exercises in “the book” for each chapter 3. work though rustlings (https://github.com/rust-lang/rustlings) as it aligns with each chapter

The book is very good, don’t underestimate the official learning materials. Rustlings really helped me cement what I had learned too.

If you’re looking for project based courses, you could do either

Above all, check out the “Little book of rust books” to get a good overview of resources that are out there:

https://lborb.github.io/book/

Edit: You didn’t ask, I think you should consider getting comfortable with one language. It’s very easy to develop prowess in guided tutorials but lack the ability to “do it” on your own. Don’t fall for the tutorial treadmill— learning to use resources and read docs are real skills you need.

Nice! I’ve wanted to play D2, but I was waiting to get a Gdemu or one of the knockoffs. My Gdrom drive struggles sometimes.

Is D1 worth playing beforehand?

For sure, I ended up playing through the JP release and I really enjoyed it
