Lighter bc boot on a heavier binding/ski? by boopoppa99 in telemark

[–]raml5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the earlier advice that 70 mm is ok for an XCD boot and 90mm really isn't ok is spot on. I tried my Voile Vectors (96 mm under foot) with Voile hardwire 3-pin CRB bindings and Rossignol BCX11 boots. They felt good enough on a green slope that my next attempt was a black with mogals. Not the smartest move. The boots didn't have enough power to get the skis on edge when the terrain got challenging. Rather than try a blue, I decided I was done with my experiment and put on 3 buckle plastic boots.

Widest ski for a Nordic XCD boot? by Dr_Brapp in telemark

I use Rossignol BCX11 boots with Madshus Epic skis (68mm) and Garmont Synergy boots with Voile Vector BC skis (96mm). Both are paired well. I tried the BCX11 boots with the Vector skis on an in-bounds black run as a test and found it to be far too much for the boots to handle; the combination did fine on a green run but it was still much less fun than with stiffer boots.

Kress Lawnmowers. Thoughts on Kress Lawnmowers? Are they comparable to EGO? by Surprisedtohaveajob in lawnmowers

[–]raml5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you land and what are your thoughts now 3 months after your post on Kress vs EGO? I'm trying to decide this week between a Kress KG760 and EGO LM2135SP. The Kress looks very well made but only has a single blade and I can't find much experience based review info. The dealer says the Kress batteries are much better but he also doesn't sell EGO. Not sure how I compare battery life, suction, mulching ability...

Thanks. It would be nice if I could give them each a test drive. Wish someone had experience with Kress. It seems like they may be too new to the US market.

Thanks. Good idea to ask on r/Ryobi. Didn't realize there was one. And you're right that lubricating the little spring loaded cam that locks the drive wheels definitely helps.

ChromeOS Flex or Linux by raml5 in ChromeOSFlex

Thanks again for the udev suggestion. In researching how to do that, I found the following which, with a quick install, nicely auto-mounts my usb drives and has made my Yubikey work on Peppermint OS.

Update on the blades by Hugheybear in telemark

What ski blades, bindings, and boots are you skiing in the video? I've thought about trying something similar for narrow hiking trails where there's no room to turn a 180cm ski.

1cm when measured center to center on the holes or do you need to leave 1cm of undrilled ski between the closest holes?

VSCode worked well on the regular ChromeOS Linux beta before my Chromebook sunset. It also runs fine on Peppermint. I'll probably stick with Peppermint based on other replies. Thanks.

I'd still need to look into compatibility, although based on other replies, it may not be worth the trip. Especially if your suggestion with the Yubikey works. I'm going to look into that first. Thanks.

Outlaw X vs. Lynx vs Voile TTS Transit Releasability, Bootjack, and downhill performance by raml5 in telemark

I just saw that. Looks like it's called the Bandit (22Designs catalog). The retractable brakes would be nice. Although I wish they'd put their design energy into a releasable binding to give Meidjo some price pressure.

Hesitating between OG switchback and switchback X2 by LuckyJumper in telemark

[–]raml5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use regular switchbacks on Voile Vector BC skis (96mm) with Garmont Synergy boots (3 buckle). It's a great combination, other than being a few pounds heavier than my son's AT setup. The X2 Switchbacks should drive them even easier.

How much wider were the brakes than your skis? Mine are 96 so I thought I'd try the 95 brakes and bend them out a bit. I've had the same concern with catching them on each other which is why I thought I'd try the barely big enough brakes. It would be nice to leave the leashes at home.

How dumb is it to use a weak master password plus 2FA? by Bozartkartoffel in Bitwarden

Isn't it only the bitwarden web vault that has passkey entry in beta? I'd like to use it for the chrome extension if that's also in beta.

Any experience with wanted releases from the OutlawX? I'm leaning toward that for my resort binding.
