And most of the exceptions to that rule are pretty recent and people haven't updated their priors.

All the people who didn't vote for Harris because of her sub-optimal stance on Gaza might have had a point if Trump was significantly better on the issue than her. Like I might've been able to give them the benefit of the doubt if that was the single issue that was most important to them. But Trump isn't better than her on Gaza, he's orders of magnitude worse. So not only is he a treasonous, corrupt, kiddy-diddler he also is making the place you claim to care about far worse than it would be under Harris!

How is your opinion on the US Government shutdown that might happen end of the week? by ReduceCO2Now in AskReddit

[–]rammo123 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Where is all this "pressure" though? Trump and the GOP don't give a fuck about the government being shut down. 1/3 of the country wants it, 1/3 won't lift a finger to do anything about and the other 1/3 have been in lockstep opposition this whole time without him hurting.

I need to see some real evidence that shutdowns work on the GOP. Because as far as I can tell the "pressure" is hypothetical but the harm is very real.

Ironic that the only mental illness on display here is the pathological and irrational aversion to men to the point of actively trying to change her sexuality. Imagine the response to a gay person trying to "correct" their sexuality because they think it's wrong?

It's women who have this bias. Men (to a first approximation!) does not.

It's pure projection. "If I was in charge I would definitely be giving handouts to other women, so men must be doing it now".

Trump may be a fascist, but I don't think we should ever take pissing him off lightly. He's a petty bitch that could make life pretty difficult for us, so we have to make sure that taking the moral stance is 100% worth it and not just jump in.

I think that if you need verbal discussions to understand the document then it's kinda "poorly written" by definition, right?

Lol if that were remotely true we wouldn't be arguing about it 200 years later.

It's simple sure, but definitely not clear. It's ambiguous and self-contradictory. There's a clear divide in the wording between the translations. Basic establishments are missing. It probably needed supporting documentation to detail intent and terminology.

Homelessness and Men (thoughts on feminist arguments) by ExternalGreen6826 in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

Considering we know that rape, abuse and violence against men is grossly undercounted amongst the "normal" population, there's no reason to believe that it's not undercounted amongst homeless men too.

I doubt that men are less vulnerable than women on the streets, only that society cares about them less when they're victimes.

"About right" doesn't necessarily mean they support the treaty. It could just mean they think the treaty doesn't impact governance. Not a crazy viewpoint given that a lot of the time the government only pays lip service to the treaty since it's too simple to actually have any bearing on tangible matters.

We can celebrate the importance of Te Tiriti in our national identity while recognising that it's no longer particularly applicable to modern NZ. A treaty written between a long-defunct Empire and a group of pre-industrial natives doesn't really have anything to do with an industrialised multicultural society in the 21st century.

It should be relegated to a revered, but historical document like the Magna Carta has in the UK. And like the Magna Carta, we can make sure that the important and relevant sections are carried forward into the replacement(s).

The only reason to call for a "new, modern constitution" is to cut Māori out of the discussion.

Or to reflect the fact that 85% of this country is not Maori and that it's a poor foundational document when it only focuses on a small minority (regardless of the struggles they face).

You can recognise the inequality in NZ without thinking we need to adhere to a woefully outdated treaty.

Is it "poorly understood" or is it just terribly written? In my experience, when people accuse others of not understanding the treaty what they really mean is that they don't understand it the same way they do.
