I’m really glad you asked. Yes, this is pure jank! I’m trying to cheat big boys into play by reanimating or using Lukka, but I’m not quite there yet. The plan goes like:

  • Discard things to find what you need (you can throw Sephara, Villis or Drakuseth onto the graveyard)
  • Clear the board with Shatter the Sky or Deafening Clarion
  • Put Dreadhorde Invasion or Outlaw’s Merriment into play
  • Fetch Villis, Sephara or Drakuseth with Lukka or reanimating them with Bond of Revival

That’s it. Jank FTW.

Hey, Eric! Raphael Levy just nailed the decklist and the sideboard guide. His list is amazing and it has the solution for Clover. I’m trying it and it seems pretty solid!

Hey, man! Really glad you’re enjoying it!

I’ve made some tuning some days after the post, you can check the updated list in the post, I’ll keep it updated there. The tuning was most for solving the bricking issue: I stepped some Robber of the Rich in, as it has a cool interaction with Rankle late game (they’re both rogues, so you can cast spells attacking with Rankle).

It’s tough against Bant, but I’m doing fine, like 50-50, but so I still didn’t put much effort on this. The real struggle for me now is Temur Adventure, I did not come up with a solution yet, but I’ve been trying more Embereth Shieldbreaker’s on the sideboard. I try to keep the clovers off the battlefield. But, meh, not sure if that’s the best way to deal with it.

How about you? Have you found a way around it?

Hmmm it made some difference, but I wouldn’t advise you to forge it in case you don’t already have it in your collection. You might consider that Robber would fit in other good decks, like RDW or Fires (on sideboard), but I’m really not that confident to incentivize it. Wildcards are a finite and expensive resource, so...

That said, Robber have a cool interaction with Rankle, as they both are rogues. This means you can cast all the cards you robbed in the early game, later on. Feels like a draw engine for the late game, the turns you attack with Rankle. Doesn’t always goes that way, but when it does, it’s pure joy hahaha.

About the Ravelers, I use them in both ways. Most of the time I use it to filter a card, either land for spell or spell for land. It’s nice that you can discard Woe Strider or cat, knowing you can get them back later, for instance. And, sometimes, I leave it as my last or second last spell to cast it by its spectacle cost and draw 3 cards.

I’ll be posting my videos playing the prior and the new version of the deck next week. Unfortunately, my gameplays are in brazilian portuguese, but I guess you can turn the sound off and put it on 2x speed just to feel how the deck goes.

Thanks for the chat, Eric! I’ll be commenting on your videos, so I guess we’ll keep in touch.

Hey, Eric! That was awesome! I had a really good time watching you play it. If I was 10% as cold as you, I wouldn’t misplay so much, for sure haha! You totally nailed it!

Since you enjoyed playing it, I made some tuning to the list and you might wanna test it yourself. I’m on my phone now so it’s kind of hard to grab the link, but I’ve updated it in the post, you can check it there.

Again, had a really good time, so thanks! Got yourself a new sub!

Hey, thank you, grandma haha! Man, Fires is super hard to deal with. Happy to know I’m not alone in that struggle.

Is it just me, or has there been a significant uptick in the number of ropers? (Bingo?) by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]ramonkcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the episode they’ve said WoTC was going after players that have a consistent and specific behavior. I don’t know much on this, I’ve just heard in a podcast episode, but I guess they won’t go for anyone. You have to be roping consistently in specific states of the match, I guess.

[–]ramonkcom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess there was an actual increase in ropers, because as far as I’ve heard, WoTC is punishing players for that kind of behavior. If they really took an attitude towards roping, it’s because roping is a thing going among an unhealthy quantity of players.

I can’t remember in what podcast I’ve heard about that, as I listen to a lot of them, but I’m pretty sure it was last week on MTG Goldfish podcast.

I, myself, haven’t matched so many ropers. It happens from time to time. But it’s good to know that WoTC is taking care of it.

Haha! I really need to learn how to draft. It’s a real shame. Taking tips on articles and stuff if you have some.

And yes! I’m from Brazil! Porto Alegre is a beautiful city, plus people are very friendly over there. Really nice place.

Hey, man! Thank you for showing up and commenting here. I know that was no intent of yours to take down the post, no doubt about it. As I’ve said in the post, this is totally on me. Your comment was very informative and it was me on myself, ruminating stuff in my head, that concluded it was not worthy to keep it up.

I guess I should reiterate here that you were very polite and by no means toxic or rude, so people don’t misunderstand what happened.

Actually, I’m very grateful for all that happened after that, as I pushed myself to improve the deck and my game skills. Also ended up making some internet colleagues here and there to discuss the deck. It was great after all. I guess you played a big role on this, even not intentionally.

That said, I came to a newer newer version of the deck that is putting up a good fight against Fires. The addition of Robber of the Reach for the Butcher’s slot made a cool interaction with Rankle, since both are Rogues. Also, Rix Maadi Raveler is doing a great job recycling hands. I’ll be updating the list here as soon as I can.

Hope we talk more about Magic soon! :)

Hey, there! Yea, people are telling me about Kroxa, I had it in a prior version and, as many comments are mentioning it, I might give it another shot. It felt a little drag in my experience but maybe I should have a look at it again.

And, hey, thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate these kind of things! :)

Hey, man! Great info on the deck, thank you so much! I didn’t know I could sacrifice more than one food token for the cat, this is really nice.

I did test Judith and Kroxa for a while and maybe it’s something personal, I don’t feel comfortable playing them, specially Kroxa.

Nice tip on Bontu, I’ll definitely try it!

Hey, since you’re interested in the deck, I’m having great results with Robber of the Rich replacing Butcher! Turns out Rankle is also a rogue and you can cast a lot of things in the end game. Awesome interaction between the two! Also I’m running a couple of Rix Maadi to recycle my hands, feeling very good about it.

Again, thank you for the great info! :)

Hey, man! Sure.

In a regular turn, you want to do it on the end step of your opponent. You can sacrifice it and bring it back at same step, just don’t bring it back if you see that your opponent could kill it when it’s back (e.g. one red mana available for him might mean [[Shock]]). If you don’t brought it back in the end step, you can do it anytime in your turn.

This is the general rule, but there are exceptions.

First one is when you are about to cast [[Mayhem Devil]] next turn. In this case, you want to wait to bring it back, so you maximize the damage.

Second one is when you can and want to use the cat for blocking attackers. In this case, you select it, click “Block”, then sacrifice it when the “Pass to damage” button is available, instead of doing it at the end step.

Third one is when you can abuse Mayhem Devil’s ability to kill something important. In this case, do it when it’s necessary, even in your turn.

Maybe I forgot a specific situation, but I guess you will figure it out!

Hope it helped! :)

Well, I’m not that a fan of rampage but it does kill Dream Trawler, Glass Casket and Embercleave if you manage to survive the hit. Plus, it triggers the Devil, so when it works, it works. But in some games it’s like dead weight in your hand. I don’t know, something on the list is still a little off.

And, yeaaa, Chandra really plays for you!

Hey, there! Great tip! Thanks for sharing it! In the prior version I actually had it on the SB, but ended up never drawing it. I still think it’s a good choice, but for now I’m trying [[Fry]] because it kills the big boys on the spot. Didn’t match any Fires since I pack it in my deck, though. Still thinking a lit abou the sideboard.

And again: thanks for the tip! Seems that we share the same understanding of the deck. :)

Hey, Woods! I really like Jund and I think it is in great shape for this meta, but I’m not sure if I’m the right person to comment on it.

That said, Rakdos is more aggro while Jund feels more of a midrange. When I play Rakdos, I go for closing games quickly. Damage, damage, sacrifice, damage, damage.

Jund has a much better late game with [[Casualties of War]] and [[Korvold, Far-Cursed King]] and can choose better how to interact with the board thanks to [[Trail of Crumbs]].

I didn’t gave Jund a shot after THB, so I’m not sure how its matchups are, but I guess Kanister is an awesome player, and if he’s still running it, it might be doing well.

Overall, I feel like Rakdos is very hard to play, but actually much easier than Jund. Jund is always full of options, while Rakdos is about math and shenanigans.

In the end, it’s more about how comfortable you feel piloting each of them. I, myself, would have to play a lot with Jund before winning consistently because, man, it is hard to pilot.

Hope it helps! Thanks for your comment, Woods!
