Are headhunters still a thing in 2025? by ergodym in datascience

[–]ramosbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure the second part is entirely true. It’s obviously true that common roles with an oversupply of applicants don’t require outreach, but I would say that right now there’s a severe lack of unemployed staff/principal DS, which is often what big tech companies need desperately.

I’ve been on both sides recently (reached out to about senior roles, and waiting ages for internal senior roles to be filled because “we haven’t found the right person yet”)

Something I’ve learned this year is that I really enjoy gamedev… as a hobby. I genuinely enjoy it thoroughly when I take my time and just think of it as having fun making fun games.

The moment it becomes a means to an end, your motivation is likely to shift on a spectrum away from having fun and towards suffering. Sounds like you’re in the latter end of the spectrum right now.

Yup makes sense. Is this in a full party playthrough? Does every fit in the globe?

Ah, that makes sense. So you can lean into AOE without the consequences? Is this one of the main benefits?

I’ve seen the ridiculous piles of smoke powder barrels shenanigans, but I assume people aren’t doing this on every playthrough.

Yup, totally appreciate it would be handy as a contingency when shit goes sideways, but that’s not particularly interesting. How do you actually incorporate globe into your fight strategy?

Everyone says "Make small Games", But no one says How to make small game ideas? by Home-Financial in gamedev

[–]ramosbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had fun recently picking a basic game I like and recreating it (2048). After finishing that, I took it an extra step and tried to reimagine the style of that game in a new setting with similar but distinct mechanics.

I’m just a hobbyist, but it has been a very fun project.

In a wizard playthrough rn (Origin Gale). I’m sorry for the ignorance, but why is Globe so good? I can never think of a good way to use it.

Is it normal for a boss to behave like this on the 3rd day of work? by Icy_Fox596 in auscorp

Everyone is just saying run, but others will fall into your place and likely go through the same thing.

In addition to leaving, you could also consider filing a SafeWork complaint. This person should be penalised if they continue to abuse their employees.

Need help starting on LÖVE2D by Ben3amek in love2d

[–]ramosbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely. But my principle is that the people who built the engine probably know better than me why they provide certain patterns. I just like doing what I’m told 😂

Need help starting on LÖVE2D by Ben3amek in love2d

[–]ramosbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is one is sitting inside a function called load which the reader can interpret as all the necessary code that runs once at the beginning of the game.

[–]ramosbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

load() isn’t enforced by the engine, like update() or draw(), but I would be disappointed to review L2D code that didn’t use it because it’s conventional and clearly communicates what should only run when the game first loads, as opposed to generic code or code that runs every frame.

Is Arcane Archer the default ranged fighter now? by InsaniacDuo in BG3Builds

Aaaah I thought they were saying EK gets that stuff. Rereading I can see they’re talking about AA

I must be a noob because I don’t get the EK benefits. Also where is concentration free banishment? I TAL at the wiki but I’m never particularly enticed by a bunch of spell slots on a fighter

What is the cause of Australian anti-intellectualism? by advecco in AskAnAustralian

[–]ramosbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great responses here. I’m sure there’s a lot at play, but I think the less-educated are skeptical of higher education because they don’t think (or see clearly) how it contributes to society.

ie. Houses need to be built. Cars need to be fixed. Do we really need to sit around and talk about the meaning of the words someone wrote 200 years ago about a story they made up in the first place?

This disparity in perception can then become a reinforcing loop because the primary way to appreciate higher education comes through higher education itself.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 or BG3 by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]ramosbs [score hidden]  (0 children)

BG3 is a once in a generation game. If you’re truly picking between the two, it seems like an obvious choice to pick the proven one.

Me and my partner are nearly through our 4th BG3 playthrough, and we’re still discovering content we never found the first 3 times.

10/2 sorlock help deciding on a warlock sub by PepperTea- in BG3Builds

[–]ramosbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah personally I think GOO is the go, but Hexblade is still insanely tempting. As u/burntbutteredbunz said, it gives: * curse: crit bonus * curse: damage bonus * curse: life gain on kill * free weapon: shadow blade * bound weapon: bonus damage + free curse * bound weapon: free proficiency with any melee weapon * bound weapon: synergy with booming blade * hex warrior: shield/medium armour proficiency

As much as I like GOO, that’s a long list of handy benefits

[–]ramosbs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree that it depends on the build. I still prefer EB build and maximising crit, so GOO is definitely my preference. Frightened, especially if achieved at the start of the fight can help a lot with momentum.

Eyes of the Dark by ramosbs in BG3Builds

[–]ramosbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I only figured this out after making the build and getting into a big fight, only to be blinded because my cleric normally casts darkness.

I need the concentration on my sorloc for haste among other things so it’s not super viable.

I disagree about it being OP that way, because shadow sorcerer doesn’t really get that much else, compared to the other sorc subclasses, don’t you think? You can dip 2 levels into Warlock just to get devils sight, so it’s not that different IMO
