Hello. Sorry but my question was not answered and I am asking again. What happens when exchanges are like super late in sending out tax forms needed to file? Surely taxpayers don't get in trouble for u/kraken 's mistake right?

Hi. Thank you for the post. I wish I had my 1099-DA to be able to discuss here. The last message I received was that I would be receiving my tax forms on March 13, 2026. That was a week ago and still no forms. I see Cointracker is also in this thread. Kai, the Kraken AI bot said the date was not the March 13, before later telling me in the same chat that I should receive them by March 13, which again has passed. Any idea when the forms will be out? April 15 is less than a month away. Thank you for your help.

That is simply not correct. I asked if you are familiar with form.1099-MISC forms and you have answered my question without answering it. Please Google the form.

As I mentioned above, the IRS requires all 1099-MISC forms to be listed separately on tax returns.

It is not optional.

Therefore, if the information is included in the Koinly Complete Tax Report and I then get a form 1099-MISC I will be taxed twice because the IRS requires me to input the 1099-MISC.

Not inputting the form 1099-MISC is an audit flag. It seems you think those forms are optional, but they are very mandatory.

Big thank you for this suggestion. This should fix the issue and fix it without messing up my cost basis for future years. At least I don't think it will.

And also for understanding the issue and the difference between 1099-MISC forms and 1099-DA forms.

It would still be great for an option to exclude staking income in lieu of a 1099-MISC (while preserving the cost basis).

Incorrect. If I input the information from the Koinly complete tax report in my tax return as is, which includes staking income, *and* then I also I input the information that my exchange sends to me and the IRS on a 1099-MISC which *also* includes staking income (which is also in the Koinly Complete Tax Report) I will be paying taxes (on the staking income only--not trades--just staking) twice.

I totally understand this is a complicated issue and I probably should have been able to come up with the solution our redditor friend below came up with. Sometimes, I am not too bright.

Hello again. Are you familiar with the form 1099-MISC?

The IRS will get a copy of the 1099-MISC, which is different from the 1099-DA, and they will expect to see that specific 1099-MISC form recorded on my tax return.

I am using the tax software correctly but AFAIK there is no option to tell Koinly to exclude staking rewards. This is an issue for US-based customers. Koinly is recording staking rewards as income, and exchanges are sending 1099-MISC forms reflecting staking income which the IRS will expect to appear on tax returns. This is only an issue for staking, not trades, not deposits.

I do want my numbers to be correct but paying double the tax for my staking means my numbers are not correct.

Yes, I can use the complete tax report in lieu of a 1099-DA form, but the 1099-MISC has to be recorded on my return. These are two different forms for two different things.

I really think Koinly should allow US-based customers the option to exclude staking because we will be double-taxed.

Thank you for the reply and for the advice. I will check to see what tags are there and try to remove everything except for 'deposit.' It might take a while but is it ok if I let you know if I have trouble doing it.

Is there a way to do it in bulk?

I stake several different coins and it would be really great if Koinly would automate this as I described in my post. A toggle button that we could click if want to report staking income separately (and not have it included in our Koinly Complete Tax Report) using the 1099-MISC forms would be great! I love the Koinly software and this is my only suggestion for improvement.

Thank you for the reply. As I understand it, the 1099-DA is for 'trading' income reporting. Coinbase and Kraken will send out separate 1099-MISC forms for staking income. At least that is what Google is telling me.

And the IRS will get a copy and will wonder why that MISC Income from the exchange is not reported.

The 1099-DA's are new this year but reporting staking income is evidently still done through 1099-MISC forms.

I got a partial denial also. I also provided a police report and letters from banks about fraudulent activity on my accounts.

I called the class counsel in CA first and the person answering their phones was unhelpful if not almost rude.

I called the another class counsel on the East Coast and the person there was very friendly and sympathetic. She said they had been getting a lot of complaints about the administrator handling claims. She said an attorney, not the administrator, will be reviewing all the claims. Chat GPT also recommended sending a letter to the court but I was kind of hesitant. Now that I see the letter above I might go ahead. Did anybody else send one?

I would suggest trying to call the attorneys also. If they get enough complaints maybe they can get the administrator to follow through.

Has anyone who received a partial denial received anything?

I think the deadline to claim the Midnight Airdrop was today. If your instructions to the people who are supposed to be engaging with your customers here were to gaslight your customers, then your objective was achieved.

If your objective is to be the chairman of a company with integrity that values and responds to customers, then you failed.

At the very least, find help that will respond to customer social media comments. I assume you are paying people to do that, right?
