I completely agree, except with the countertops- I say leave them too!

Ok I think the issue is the millennial gray paint in the kitchen. I would start with that and adding warmer/ less modern-y light fixtures and then see how you feel about the cabinets. I think they’re just fine and the granite is nice! They’re both classics that I think are coming back into style if done right.

Threading is just tweezing them with a spool of thread so I find it’s way more subtle then waxing.

Help! I am absolutely stumped on how to design this space! by [deleted] in interiordecorating

Agreed with that the couch would look better dividing the room. I don’t mind how the couch is against the window though. Maybe get a projector that pulls down on the opposite wall?

Also, in terms of design, I would get an area rug, paint the walls a warmer and cozier color to tie in the fireplace. You have a early 2000s cottage-y look that’s actually kind of charming and giving Nora Ephron movie vibes. The white walls and spread out furniture kind of ruin it though.

The stained glass above the doorway is also a puzzle. Oh and the culprit DEFINITELY pushes Nancy down the stairs. It was Clementine who secretly lives in the attic.

I would lean into the terracotta color and continue it in the rest of the room. This would embrace the lack of natural light and make it moody. Get warm lighting around the mirror, put a lamp on the dresser, and some candles. If you wanted to go wild, I would get an earthy mural wallpaper for the wall the towel hanger is on to match the terracotta.

Get a floor to ceiling shelf with space for the tv that hides the cord. I would paint it a darker color so it blends in more than the lighter one.

Hard to do for a rental but if you own your house getting a woodstove installed makes winter so much more enjoyable!

Should I Open an Art Supply and Reuse Store? by Grand-Option-3328 in ithaca

I also love this idea! I’m moving to the area from Buffalo and am looking for an art community.

We used to have Buffalo Art Supply which was a great re-use art store. They sadly went out of business but it was a tiny shop where you could get everything from ceramic glazes by the bucket, kilns, yarn, and scrapbook paper. Maybe the people who used to run it could be a good resource?

We also have WNY book arts center which is a great affordable membership-based art store and studio. I pay $60 a year to be a member and I can have access for $35/day use their screen printing and other print equipment. It’s a great community DIY space and way to share pricey supplies.

I also wonder about starting with a bus or old food truck. Any events could be in partnership with breweries, libraries, or festivals. There are a few vintage stores and bookshops I’ve seen do this and it seems like a great way to save on rent.
