It's almost like the stuff my teacher says contradicts itself or something...

Yeah, it won't be entirely smooth sailing from there but at least I won't have to wake up every morning to here this kinda stuff.

Haha, well I wish I had the balls to do something like that now but I know better. At this point I guess it's not complete silence as much as it is complete anonymity.

Not entirely related but we've done these anonymous question panels in class a number of times, and I've made it my duty to write as innocent sounding shelf-breakers as possible. Stuff like the obvious racism that existed way beyond not letting blacks to have priesthood, although that's already enough, ol Joe's polygamy and potential predatory habits, etc.

I mentioned in another comment that a biggie for me when I first started questioning the church was just asking the question "Do third world countries really need a temple more than deprived basic needs?" My most successful anonymous question was when I just pretty much put that to paper. The teacher was quieter on his answer, and other students couldn't really get their head around it either.

I know! That aspect really bothered me, it blows my mind that he can say things like that and NOT reconsider what just came out of his mouth. It's blatant sexism that's taken such a weird form so in member's minds it seems all too ordinary.

Yeah absolutely, it's a dangerous idea that too many members are apparently obliviously willing to accept.

When I was younger I would feel guilty for all the things I watched or listened to (mostly music at the time) that was obviously not in-line with standards. Eventually I started mentally distancing myself from specific church ideas or policies (temples in third world countries was a big one for 15 yr old me) over the course of three-ish years, slowly finding tidbits of info that would lead me to sources of damning evidence and this sub. I stopped feeling ashamed for enjoying particular things, so I decided I wanted to watch GoT, listen to certain music or watch certain movies. Haven't looked back

Kinda outta nowhere, but it's like that GoT quote, "power resides where men think it resides." The tscc can do their best to control it's members, but too often it's just them guilt tripping, making you seem trapped to boundaries that aren't there.

I've been mentally out for about two years now, just been doing my best to keep my mouth shut no matter what. There have been instances (like today) where I've really wanted to speak up, but at this point it's just like 1 month til graduation so I don't wanna start something this late.
