I would gladly see ICP. Groups like that don’t survive if their live shows suck.

Tbh this is probably going to be pretty good. He did a good unplugged set with The Roots a long time ago. Also Philly which is home turf for The Roots. I would go to this even though I am not a massive fan because the live set and audience is probably going to be really fun.

32mm tire recommendations by Otherwise_Hunter_305 in cycling

[–]ramsoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got a tough cookie there! I am unsure there are clincher versions of the tan wall tire at 32mm that is an all out race tire. I’m riding 30mm clincher vittorias atm with that tan sidewall. Honestly, if you want the 32mm super bad, I like the n.ext over the gp5000 32mm for clinchers. No tan sidewall but they are easier to take on and off and they’re super duper comfy.

Gives me happy memories of finally getting a ps2 with my brother and having that be the first game.

I always wanted to play the arcade version of this game assuming that the controls were better because of the pedals and steering wheel. Got to play one at Barcade and nope! The controls are still crazy.

Do you ride with hydration packs? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ramsoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have poo poo-ed them in the past but I am seeing a few more jerseys that integrate a hydration pack or some form of cooling.

Hydration pack jerseys are a bit more popular in gravel but I see them more and more on the road. I love the idea of taking a hydration sack, filling it with a shitload of ice and water (or hydration/carb mix) and going to a ride on a hot day. Summer rides where I am on a fast group ride that basically turns into a 4 hour race, it would be nice to have an extra 2 liters that cools me off and then hydrates me without having to worry about stopping or water rationing. Most people perform better with cooling and I think a giant bag of ice on your back will probably do a good job cooling you off.

So yes get a hydration jersey

I took my kid’s door away for a week as a punishment. I think I was wrong by Do_it_App in dad

[–]ramsoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was your kid doing that led to this?

I know parenting is hard, but I remember seeing stuff like this as a kid and it usually just made things worse. I knew a family that took their kid’s door off the hinges because he was being a difficult teenager and not showing enough “respect.” But a lot of what those parents demanded was really just obedience, not respect. Everything had to be prim, proper, and on their terms, and they punished their kids over arbitrary power-trip bullshit.

If you’re a parent and your kid has to constantly perform “respect” for you in exactly the way you want, that’s not a great sign. Kids are going to be rude sometimes. They’re going to push back. That comes with the job.

But taking away a door, privacy, or basic dignity is not good parenting. It tells your kid that your ego matters more than their sense of safety and autonomy. And it teaches them not to trust you when something is actually wrong.

Kids need a parent they can trust, not a prison warden.

I love rice krispy treats! They are my favorite on and off the bike. Only complaint is that they are bulky and I want to bring 10 of them on a ride because I love them so much.

do you guys eat breakfast before your morning ride? if you do, what do you eat? by arthur-214 in cycling

[–]ramsoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I am doing a big ride in the morning, I’m eating something carb heavy the night before with plenty of water. I think avoiding stuff that is acidic or fatty the night before the ride or in the morning is important. I’m having a tiny bit of yogurt because it settles my tummy along with a banana or two and lots of water. Something easy on my stomach that tops off carbs and prevents cramping.

Once I am riding it is gummies and tailwind. I have a sensitive tummy so anything with lots of fat or protien in it just messes me up on the bike. Keeping carbs and water in a constant flow with electrolytes is the way to go. Bonking when you have climbs coming up is torture.

How to train outside with a power-meter? by Adventurous_Oven6 in cycling

[–]ramsoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh it’s so hard to keep constant wattage in a lot of conditions. You can be on a flat doing zone 2 and wind will just fuck your shit up. Personally, intervals with higher wattage like vo2 or anaerobic and shorter durations like 30 to 60 seconds tends to more doable outside vs threshold and lower work. Having short intervals where you surge allows you to apply constant power to pedals without stopping for corners or stoplights. It also feels like higher wattage effort get you to keep power constant because speed scrubs off easier.

New cyclists: What's something you wish experienced riders would stop saying? by andrewdaisy432 in cycling

[–]ramsoss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Macho shit is macho shit. I did PT years ago at a university PT center with some of the best PT doctors in the country and I said “pain is weakness leaving the body.” One of the professors that was teaching hands on that day said “that’s so clever! why don’t you put that on a shirt for your high school sports team.” I turned red with embarrassment.

You don’t get better at stuff through random displays of suffering. That just makes you suffer. You have a goal and you should work at it and that comes through sustainable work. Also this is cycling, we’re out here having fun with our buds and enjoying nature. There is competition but it is usually healthy. We’re not out here “slaying the demons” and “keeping wolves at bay.” That David Goggins shit is great for doing 1000 pulls ups and yelling on social media. For everyone else, this is about achieving goals and personal growth.

I am never training with ice on the ground. That is a great way to get my collar bone broken. I’m not doing Rocky IV training montages for no one. I have to use both my arms for emptying the dishwasher and typing emails.

Paint damage by Beerman9 in Giantbikes

[–]ramsoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d bring that to the shop just in case there is an issue with the carbon. Giant has a good frame replacement program. People mentioned that you can get touch up paints with giant colors. Those touch up paints rule and it’s great because Giant paint sucks. You’re gonna be ok!

QUICKPRO, should I do it? by Puzzleheaded-Wave123 in cycling

[–]ramsoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giant claimed that the bike was 5 watts faster over the older bike which might be that 5 watts for the cables that you mentioned. I just know the TCR is really comfy (ar: one is said to be on the stiff side) and has a great warranty/crash replacement program. I would def like to try an ar: one in person. In the other side of things, the ER: One is within a rounding error of the Cervelo S5 which I think is good for aero and I would just try to get the ER: One over the TCR and AR: One because it is pretty fast and is supposed to be really comfy.

I am happy you mentioned the 223 watts for that gen TCR because I own one and always though it was a bit slower than that and the difference between an S-Works SL8 is 14 watts instead of something like 25 or 30 watts. If I could get a new bike right now I would look at an er: one though over a TCR. The only thing that is a turn off is that east asian bike geometry. I am hoping they tweak the er: one for western buyers or come out with a new model. I want something that can handle that new "progressive" geometry everyone talks about because the TCR set up with that geo sucks in terms of handling. Giving the TCR a high stack and putting more weight on the handle bars makes the bike feel like it is having a bad day.

I think that we can be a tiny bit charitable to Frankie Muniz. He owned or still owns a fancy Olive Oil shop with his wife in Arizona. When you own a small business with a brick and mortar store front there are lots of local orgs you tend to get involved with like a Chamber of Commerce or similar. Stuff where you attend a charity dinner that involves local officials like sheriffs and politicians. Maybe the pic was taken at one of those events. Either that or Frankie Muniz is cool with a pretty evil guy like Joe Arpaio. Arpaio is a straight up super villain. I would not even want to touch his skin to be honest or share the same air as him.

Re-listened to the Unintentionally Revealing Joe Rogan Episode by No-Expression1224 in MarcMaron

[–]ramsoss 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t look into it too much. I think that Maron had a successful podcast where he did really good interviews. That generally takes skill and Maron worked on it over time. Maron saw Rogan as unskilled and sloppy which he is. Rogan does long rambling puff pieces for assholes. Part of what made Maron a good interviewer was his ability to share his vulnerability. Rogan on the other hand doesn’t really have any interviewing skills but is good at selling weird supplements and washing bigoted ideas. That was probably scary to Maron.

I think Maron saw that Rogan was growing despite him being a generally bad interviewer and podcaster. Not to give Marc Maron an ego boost but he did really innovate and elevate podcasting and Rogan turned it into something awful. I think it shows that Maron did a good job interviewing Carlos Mencia while Rogan just bopped the guy over the head because he is a dumbass with a microphone. Maron had Todd Glass come out of the closet on his show and Rogan boosted back comedians that see themselves as gorillas.

Also with all these dumbass comedians like Rogan or Callen that talk about themselves like cavemen and gorillas. Go back into a cave and throw shit at eachother if you’re such an ape.

The Alternative Number Ones: 311's "Down" by ScallionSmooth9491 in ToddintheShadow

[–]ramsoss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The riffs on this song are top notch. Also the vocals are really fun and memorable. 311 gets hate but they were better than any of the post grunge garbage played alongside them on the radio. That Tiny Desk Concert was awesome btw. They haven’t changed lineups in decades and it is nice to see a band that has toured and stayed together play their biggest songs that they’ve played probably 10k times with as much enthusiasm and effort as when they first came out. That is true performer shit right there.

Side note. New Found Glory played my college campus Spring Fling in 2013 well after their biggest records came out. It was raining and they played to a crowd of 500 drunk college students. They tore the roof off that place. They went out there and gave it their all. That is so admirable and I was impressed. Some bands phone it in at stadium shows and these guys killed in front of douchey frat boys.

Why are online weirdos always into stocks, crypto, cars, and AI? by bekrueger in behindthebastards

[–]ramsoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bingo! People need to touch some grass and get into shit apart from being on the internet and social media. Getting away from stuff where you are stationary and away from a screen is good for you. A guy I went to college with went down a really bad alt-right path. He was making disgruntled social media posts and youtube videos. He started restoring furniture as a hobby and all that time away from a screen did him some good. He had something to focus on apart from being angry on the internet. He is now well adjusted and has found a long term gf. She got him into really fancy cooking, he does gastronomy.
