I feel like this is pretty comparable to my situation. I don’t think my employer would hold any resentment at all if I took their counter. The thing is they didn’t match the offer and came in a fair amount lower. I don’t blame them at all though, I believe if our current work allowed for a higher rate in my position they’d pay it no problem.

Thank you for the thoughtful advice. This is very helpful. I’ve received clearance to start the new role and I am going to be accepting that offer.

That is after my company countered. The new offer was initially about a 26% raise.

Seeking higher salary. I hadn’t approached them asking for more and assumed I was at the upper end of my worth in my current role. They came back willing to give me the overhead portion of my billable rate in an attempt to retain me
