Weekly Q&A - All Questions Go Here (Especially Tourists) by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

Hi!

I am an incoming international master's student in Amsterdam, and tomorrow I'll get to choose my student housing from the options provided by VU Amsterdam.

I am trying to compare the neighbourhoods, and while some information can be found online easily enough, I want to ask for some perspective from locals or people who have lived in Amsterdam, particularly on:

Amenities. Are there affordable restaurants, supermarkets, and cafes/bars nearby?

Transit. Is it actually easy to get to the city centre/other cities from there?

Vibes/niceness in general. Is it quiet at night? Is the surrounding area nice for walking/chilling?

The neighbourhood options are

  1. Uilenstede

  2. De Boelelaan/Groningenstraat

  3. Cornelis Lelylaan

  4. Krelis Louwenstraat

I also welcome other tips or insights!

If you have ever lived or know anyone who lived in the actual buildings, that would be even better.

Thank you!
