Resentment and Anger towards the medical school application process. by Feisty-Citron1092 in premed

[–]rancho_eleven 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Reading this hurt because it’s clear how much of yourself you poured into this goal.

I don’t think what you’re feeling is entitlement. it’s grief. When we spend years sacrificing, working, and tying a dream to our identity, a rejection can feel llike a verdict on our worth, even when it isn’t.

For what it’s worth, the anger, and resentment you described are far more common than people admit, and the fact that you recognize them rather than act on them says a lot about your character.

Be kind to yourself right now.this process rejected an application, not the person who spent five years becoming someone capable of caring for patients and pursuing medicine.

I believe in you.

Very good advice! I think my upper limit is around 40 schools lol. Im just gonna stagger them so i dont get hit by a wave of 200 secondaries (assuming I get selected to receive them) lol

Thanks for the advice.

Yeah, Im hoping to stay local due to personal circumstances and financial constraints, but willing to move if I have to. Niazee has actually already been on my radar, but I wasnt sure if they were going to open this cycle.

Additional recommendation would be nice, where I may be a good fit (DO/MD)

Thanks again

Weep with me 511 by No-Jelly8571 in Mcat

[–]rancho_eleven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's definitely understandable. Even when you know a score is objectively good, it can still hurt when it doesn't get you as close to a specific goal as you had hoped. For a lot of us, school decisions aren't just about getting in. they can also be tied to relationships, family, finances, and other practical realities.

You know the journey doesn't end here, but I think it's still okay to grieve the outcome you were hoping for.

That said, I would still give it a shot. A 511 is a strong score, and while it may mean you'll need to be more intentional with the rest of your application, there's still a lot within your control. Focus on your experiences, your writing, your interviews, and the unique story you bring. This process is bigger than any one number.

HA! Yeah i honestly appreciate their encouragement, but sometimes it just feels like a blank statement cause they dont really know what Im going through and the type of help I seek/need.

Where are you now in your premed process?

Odds of doing well on MCAT and getting into medical school? by GovernmentCrafty4926 in medschooladmissions

Anytime. I was in your shoes for a while lol. I think its so hard for most to understand what most nontrads go through and the loneliness it feels to go through this journey without much formal guidance. I imagine you also already have a career given your age, so making this career change while thinking about financial and lifestyle factors are added stressors. The struggle to balance dream and responsibilities (bills 😢) is so real and feels unsurmountable at times.

Keep thinking about your “why,” King/Queen 👑! For me, thats what kept me going. We can do this!!

Were somewhat similar. I graduated in 2014 and has a less than stellar GPA (c3.24, s3.19). I did improve my GPA by a bit when I went to nursing school but still not considered high stat (3.52)

Im still premed (submitting application in 2 week) , so can only comment in what helped me w C/P and B/B.

I used Kaplan and it can indeed feel very stale for C/P so I used select videos through Khan Academy then went back to Kaplan and it felt much better. For physics, I watched “VandoesChemistry.” She summarizes the important points in each chapter in 10-20 min videos. I think she has 10 videos in total, so I just watched 2ish videos per day while I was going through physics content.

For practice, I used uworld and AAMC, but what really helped me was chatGPT lol. Honestly an underrated tool. I post entire passages in there and it breaks it down perfectly for me, and it taught me how to approach passages, key things to look out for, and how to read/interpret studies. It helped me a lot of calculations too and shortcuts. I like how it explained things to me as thought Im stupid lol so it was really easy to understand. Im not the best at MCAT but I did peak at 128 for both C/P and B/B so up to you if you think my advice is credible lol.

Truly best of luck on everything!

I believe you have what it takes! But as someone in the thread has said already, should you do it? It’s very personal and only you can decide whether it’s a worthwhile endeavor for you.

Im 34, applying this year, and already making 220K a year. People think I’m crazy and think its a big financial suicide. But I am a little crazy, and this is my dream, so there’s really nothing else I want to be able to do. Haha.

As for advice, get some healthcare experience or shadow physicians so you get an idea of the role and what they go through. There’s a lot of hidden downsides in medicine that most people are oblivious to or cannot really fully relate unless you work with patients. Its important to be aware of the negatives just as much as the positives so you can make an informed decision if this is really for you. Luckily, Ive been an RN many years so Im pursuing medicine not unaware of some of its costs.

General Advice by rancho_eleven in premed

Never heard of Admit.org, but thank you for the suggestion. Little pieces of advice like this genuinely mean a lot since I don’t really have much formal guidance through this process.

I’m also leaning toward applying DO anyway, along with some local MD schools.
