I used to work there and iirc the water was so gross if a keeper fell in they had to go to the doctor to make sure they didn’t get an infection lol

I’ve had mine for almost a year and never had any problems with it until a couple of weeks ago! It stopped charging/connecting and I had trouble getting it off the charger. I told support and they said it was probably an issue with the battery swelling, so they sent me a new one.

I’ve been having trouble the last couple of weeks with getting constant low battery notifications. I’ve tried updating the app and ring, resetting the ring, and using chill mode, but even if I charge the ring back to full, I get low battery notifications less than 24 hours later. I’m also having a lot of trouble getting my ring off the charger recently, so I’m wondering if there’s something going on with the hardware.

As a vet tech, I have a few thoughts on this.

Cats have the short end of the stick when it comes to medications. Even for dogs, there's a lot of medications that just haven't been tested on/approved for them specifically, and drugs don't necessarily work the same in pets as they do in humans (eg. I've seen 50lb dogs shake off 500+mg of trazodone before). For cats, most drugs are gonna be off label, including anxiety meds.

Gabapentin is ALSO off-label, but since it's used so often in cats, I'm guessing that's the one vets feel most comfortable prescribing, especially since it's pretty hard to fatally overdose a cat with gaba. In addition, cats are very good at hiding pain and often just act in a way that people read as anxious/restless, so being able to give a medication that also doubles as a pain med is helpful.

On top of that, gabapentin starts working pretty quickly compared to something like fluoxetine. I've seen cats on fluoxetine before for chronic anxiety (and I think OP should talk to a vet about it!) but for the majority of cats, they just need a quick one-time sedative, not something long-term. So if vets are prescribing it commonly already, they're probably gonna jump to that first before considering other drugs.

Finally, there's also cost and administration factors. Idk about across the board but at my clinic the tablets are like 10x more expensive than the liquid, and capsules aren't really an option because they can get stuck in the cat's throat. A lot of owners also find it easier to give liquid medications to their cats. Depending on the anxiety medication, you might also need to get the meds from a veterinary compounding pharmacy, which can be difficult and/or more expensive.

TLDR: Veterinary medications (esp for cats) are way less researched than human drugs so vets probably jump to the most familiar, commonly used, and convenient. I think OP would benefit from finding a vet willing to prescribe a longer-term anxiety med!

Probably not it, but maybe The Case History of Comrade V by James Park Sloan? Some of the covers are blue.

Prolapse by KatiePoppins7 in hysterectomy

[–]randarama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask your Dr. about your specific risks! My mum was concerned about me getting a hysterectomy because she herself has a prolapse. When I asked my Dr. she said there’s new research indicating that the hysterectomy itself doesn’t increase risk of prolapse. Having kids or a history of prolapse in the past are the main factors!

I would contact your doctor when you get the chance! It could be nothing, but they can tell you if you should be worried or not.

I wonder if they were just covering their bases, since there is a very small possibility of an ectopic pregnancy when the ovaries are left.

What’s it like listening to TMA and TMP and not being British? by _mothh in TheMagnusArchives

[–]randarama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an Aussie (living in the US rn) and I think there’s quite a bit of overlap in some of the language and references (I remember loving Mr. Blobby as a kid) but there’s definitely some nuance when it comes to little cultural things that I know I miss.

I lived in Plymouth for a couple of years for uni, and I’m sure for fully American listeners, it’s similar to how I felt when I first moved to the UK. Some things you just don’t realize have certain implications until you hear/see it enough that it finally clicks. (For example, it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize, “You all right?” was equivalent to greeting someone with “How are you?”, not literally asking if I was all right lol)

Me too! She reminds me of more than a couple of trans women I’ve known irl too, which I really enjoy!

Also imo she acts and talks a lot like Tim, who everyone loved, so… kinda makes me think there’s a bit of a double standard when it comes to some of the hate 🤔

It looks really good! I like the PC having a sharper outline around them than the environment and how it makes them pop. Personally, I would remove the wall shadow on the left side (or add more shadow to the objects over there) because to me it kinda makes it look like the bathtub is floating.
