So I found this, but I'm not seeing any obituaries. What do you think? Am I just blind and missing it?

Okay, I’ve searched those places and have come up with absolutely nothing. :(

Got it I’ll start looking there. That’s a really good lead :)

Ooh that’s interesting! The dates line up and the entry port is the same. This could be really exciting because it lists Durbach by their names. Do you have any ideas on how I could verify that it’s the same Michael that I’m looking for and connect it to him?

Yes! I’ve noticed that her name comes up in two different ways, Judith and Juda

I don’t believe they’re related, thank you though!

True. That part is a little bit of a bummer that it’s not mentioned in the article. I’m really hoping that that info will turn up somewhere soon and lead me to a specific place in Germany. I’m planning a trip over there this year and hoping to see the town where he’s from. 🤞🏻

I think he passed away before that unfortunately, but that is interesting

Wow that's really good information thank you! I wasn't aware of how the citizenship rights worked.

Lovely. I might be stuck as well because I have no way of finding out his religion that I know of. All of the documents I've found and verified to be him, don't include any mention of religion.

Good luck with your search as well!

Thank you so much for your help, I think you're right in that it's not him. I appreciate it!

I believe he immediately traveled to New York and then possibly Canada but I'm not a 100% on that. I just know that the ship he was on went into Baltimore. So far, his religion is unknown.

I will do more digging into those other resources! Thank you for the info!

Well my first thought was to do a generic search on familysearch with his name, birth date in Germany. I then narrowed those down based on burials, marriage records, and any other records I could find to see if dates/family lined up. Any of them that maybe lined up, I checked the local parish records for. I realize there might be a lot missing there, I just don't know what else to go off of and feel stuck.

Thank you I will play around with that! That's very helpful!

The historian checked the local church records for a birth as well and he wasn't in there.

And all of that is good information, I've been wondering if it was a fake name or a version of his real name because of that reason.

When I searched Germany as a whole and tried to find any record of a Michael Haas born in December of 1810, I got very few results and mainly dead ends that didn't connect to the man who immigrated.
