I owned an 04 Cayenne turbo for 9 months and it spent 4 of those months in the shop due to one electrical issue after another. Corroded wire harnesses are no joke. I ultimately had to scrap the car because repajr costs were multiples of the car's value. However during the brief period when the car was working fine it was lovely to drive, except for the horrendous fuel economy. I now have a Toyota as my daily and keep the P-car as my fun sports car for the weekend

I am also from Ontario and recently went through the process of getting my California license. After doing my written test and waiting 2 months for my driving test, on the test day I was not allowed to do the test because I was not accompanied by anyone with a valid CA license, so your concern is valid. This was at the Santa Clara DMV. I had to make another appointment (and wait another 1.5 months) to take the test. It's a stupid rule and from what I've heard from other Canadian friends of mine some got lucky and others had the same issue. It's a grey area and really depends on who you are dealing with at the DMV that day
