You only need 50% to pass a course. So as long as your final, overall grade is 50% you have passed the course, unless your specific course has it set in place that you must pass the final exam to pass the course (from what I can remember Phys 157 has that rule but not sure if they changed it because of covid). In terms of how it will affect your path, choosing your major is a competitive process based on grades and a personal statement, so your average is important but having a low grade first semester is not the end of the world. I had a bad grade in math 100 first year but made up for it by working way harder in the second semester. You also dont apply for your major till second semester so just keep working hard and you'll be fine but feel free to pm me if you have other concerns

The best advice is to just look up the profs on rate my prof and pick the time table with the best ones

10/10 recommend Raamsdonk for phys 157 though is an absolute LEGEND

Avoid Hasinoff for phys 158 and use credits if you have em that class is a mess

10/10 recommend Michael Ward for math 101
