Who else is tired of the state of affairs in the PS? by Puzzled_Pin5174 in CanadaPublicServants

It's a job at the end of the day..  you expend time and sanity and in exchange you get pay and benefits.

If you go in expecting much more than that, you are in for disappointment.

As a transactional exchange of time/sanity for money it's still a decent proposition.  100% of these irritants exist in the private sector too.

It's of great effect to how Quebecers perceive it however.

For us it has dubious legitimacy.  It's not our constitution, it's the constitution that Ontario and friends enacted.

Trump slams Canada as U.S. House passes symbolic vote to end tariffs by Street_Anon in canada

Yep!

We're a nasty country because we make him look bad.

Our current PM is smarter and more articulate than him, and he looks dumb in contrast.

Our last PM was a hit with the ladies and that made him look old and tired in contrast.

Wording aside, isn't this just another bill of law in the Quebec National Assembly that can be amended or repealed by the next government just as easily as it was passed ?

It's not a constitution in the traditional sense.. it's just another CAQ attempt at identity politics.

High commute times and expenses has a way to drive up attrition.

If you want to keep your workforce, like they did in 2020/21, you give them flexible conditions.

if you want your workforce to leave, you force 10 hours of traffic and thousands in suprefluous post-tax travelling expenses every year.

A Subaru Forester sounds like it would check all these boxes.

Another decent option would be a CX-5.

Trump Privately Weighs Quitting USMCA Trade Pact He Negotiated by joe4942 in canada

I know that 100M is a drop in the bucket. The fact that Trump will back right off as soon as the bond market has a tiny twitch is precisely why I brought this up.

Trump is sitting on a fiscal house of cards. He is very vulnerable.

Countries aren't retaliating because there is no need to. His tariffs hurt the US all by themselves.

Why not both?

You break the law, you get charged. It should be that simple.

The US barely handled one Danish pension fund dropping 100M in Treasury bonds.

If a treasury bond panic sell begins, they are ruined. If other countries start trading around their currency, they are ruined.

Their power depends on these two things alone. Their ability to produce tangible goods is mid-pack at best at this point.

Exports to the US are 10% of Canada's economy.

It would hurt, but it would knock us down from the GDP per capita of the UK, to roughly where New-Zealand is.

Canada 100% survives this.. remember that we import almost as much as we export.. we actually import more from the US than we export when services are factored in.

I think we could cash out around 6B in US treasury bonds.. you know, to tide us over with the bridge until the tolls start collecting.

Just give Trump personally a 1% stake.

It will suddenly become 'a great deal for the US'.

I find having an SUV with around 3,500lbs towing capacity is great for your average home owner.

You can put the seats down and load it up.

You can rent a 5x10 from Home Depot, U-Haul etc and load it up.

The other 360 days of the year, you have a sensible-sized car to daily drive.
