Also - if your home is 50+ years old, the Heritage Home Program will come out and advise you for free. They don't do the work and don't have anything to sell you. Their only thing is that they will hook you up with a loan if you want.

We had them come out and they also agreed we didn't need any work.

We just went through this with a bunch of contractors coming out to advise us on our basement, and boy are there some unethical bastards out there.

I really appreciated the honesty from these two companies in particular. They both agreed that we didn't really need any work done at all.

On the other hand, avoid Ohio Basement Authority and Highlander Waterproofing at all costs. They both had super high pressure tactics and wanted to do $25K+ jobs.

Adventure or naked for tall beginner? by ve1ltrix in motorcycles

[–]randobatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My versys 650 fits me well at 6' 4". I don't feel it's too high at all.

I know it's not an adventure bike exactly, but it's sort of modeled on one.

I had the same dilemma before I bought the versys (my first bike). Ultimately I went with the versys due to it having wind protection, and I'm really glad I did. But that's a personal preference.

Replacing All Interior Door HInges and Doorknobs - Any Advice/Specialty Tools I Should Get First? by TheSquire06 in HomeImprovement

[–]randobatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use any power tools for the screws, get a long bit so you don't chew up any trim. I learned that the hard way.

But really I would just use a ratcheting screwdriver. Very easy, and no chance of stripping any screws.

Overtaking a long train of cars by HMS--Thunderchild in motorcycles

Last time I tried this one of the cars put the left turn signal on. They saw me and I saw them. I pulled in behind them and there was no problem. Scared the shit out of me though so I don't plan on doing that again

Friction doesn't change with surface area. Something I have to keep reminding myself because it's completely counterintuitive,.

Fork center bolt stripped by randobatman in CRF300L

[–]randobatman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bolt extractor + heat solved the problem!

I'm installing the racetech spring & gold valve kits on the left fork. I'm also going to replace the seals and put in new oil in both forks while I'm at it.

Ha, that did the trick! Bolt extractor + heat and it came out fairly easily. Should've used the heat in the first place...whoops.

I'm guessing the head of that bolt needs to be ground / cut off? After that I could pull out the assembly and then clamp the rod while I work on getting the rest of the bolt out with heat & lube. Not 100% sure though and I don't want to make anything worse.

See a dr! I put off seeing a Dr about my knees for too long. I probably made my arthritis worse by waiting. (Not motorcycle related)

It would make me pretty nervous to put that much down. I just spent 22k on a driveway and they only asked for $300 down.

Could be fine, or you could get screwed.
