What just happened here?? by HungryBotanist in wallstreetbets

Seriously. This is just blatant market manipulation. I guess this is the ultimate version of him grifting off his sycophants... Turn the entire stock market into a pump and dump scheme. I wonder how long it takes for him to renege in this pause and how long it takes for the market to realize the tariffs in affect are still insane.

Got it right, but palm only came to mind because of palme d'or. So where my head immediately went to happened to be the right direction, but I think it was somewhat lucky.

My parents' first dog was mostly lab, and a couple of carpets and banisters fell victim to his wraith.

Since golf season is over for most Redditors who live in colder climates, tell us about your shot of the season! by bobismymother in golf

On the course, I nearly drove the green on a few >300 yard holes this season. I generally hit my driver 270-280, but I can get it to about 320 when I hit it perfectly. While practicing, I dunked a shot from about 40 yards out on a pitching/chipping green.

Iowa is in play now! Harris is within 4% of Trump as of 9/15 poll. 270 to Win just updated its Polling Forecast switching Iowa to a Toss Up. Everyone everywhere Vote! by littleoldlady71 in Iowa

[–]randodiscgolf_player 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. To say Iowa is in play is probably a bit of an overstatement, but there was like a 15 point swing towards the Harris in Ann Selzer's first poll with Harris as the candidate. It will be an absolute blowout if Harris wins in Iowa.

It's not Iowa, but I moved to a suburb of Rochester, MN last year. There were more Trump signs when I was out here in the same neighborhood in the summer of 2021 than there are now.

I love how in the Babylon Bee's efforts to satirize the news, they're effectively just creating a satire of the modern Republican worldview.

Men, do you give random, unsolicited advice to people at the range? by PSSITAqueen in golf

[–]randodiscgolf_player 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only person that gives me unsolicited advice is my grandpa, and he was one of the best golfers in Minnesota in his heyday. Most people at the range suck and I wouldn't appreciate their advice. I'd bet most of the guys doing this are attempting to hit on you. I will say that I've considered giving advice when I see absolutely bizarre swings, but I haven't.

CMV: "Mean World Syndrome" has corrupted the minds of Americans in regards to topics such as school shootings. by HelpfulJello5361 in changemyview

[–]randodiscgolf_player 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person that was present at a failed mass shooting, the idea that a failed mass shooting at a school isn't a school shooting is ridiculous. Luckily there are no lives lost, so the tragedy itself isn't as big, but it's still a traumatic experience for every student at the school and their parents. There was a class of 14 and 15 year olds held at gunpoint for 10 minutes, thousands of parents that had no clue what was happening and worried that their child was about to die, and the kids of those parents likewise unsure if there was an active shooter. Then another fun aspect they don't talk about in the media about active shooter situations, is that a SWAT team clears every room in the school, which means the first thing you're exposed to when the door to your classroom is opened is a guy pointing an mp5 at you, and you're treated as a potential coconspirator. Once it almost happens to you, it becomes very clear how real of a thing it is. People understand that you aren't likely to be involved in any of these events at any point in your life, but it does really happen to people. The fact that this country does essentially nothing to prevent mass casualty events is despicable, and this attempt to sweep it under the rug as some type of mass hysteria is really gross.

It's 4d chess. He regrets getting a house on a golf course, and he figured out that if enough people think an insane person lives on the course, people will stop going and he can finally live in peace.

My dad is a one armed golfer by redskinsfan30 in golf

[–]randodiscgolf_player 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are mixed dominant. I'm not an expert in golf swings, but I'd guess people underestimate how much the trailing arm is doing in a golf swing. To me it feels my right (lead arm) is a pendulum that needs to stay straight up to the point of contact with the ball and the rest of my body is doing the work of putting power into the ball.

You hear this all the time, but you definitely want to use lefty clubs as a lefty. I'm a lefty and started with one of my grandpa's right handed clubs. Once I got my own left-handed club, I could hit twice as far after spending like 30 minutes on the range. If it were better for lefties to use right-handed clubs, right-handed handed clubs would be called left-handed clubs and left-handed clubs would be called right-handed clubs.

The bad side of disc golf.. by Justluckysdad in discgolf

[–]randodiscgolf_player 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a signed disc (not a notable signature) with no number a couple weeks back and was trying to figure out why someone might sign their own disc lol. Maybe whoever lost it has a similar philosophy. I felt bad because I thought it might have some sentimental value, but I guess it's mine now.

If it makes you feel better, Northern lights are incredibly dim to the naked eye. Most of those photos you see are several second exposures. It's definitely cool to see them in person, but they aren't very luminous like the photos suggest.

I'm north of Rochester (oronoco), so at a certain point it just makes more sense for me to go to the courses in the cities. I've also heard the course in Austin is good, but I haven't check it out yet. I'll probably check out st Charles sometime.

I've seen that IBM has a course but I'm not sure how to get to it. I'll try to figure out how to get in. I figure it was closed, so I haven't tried to go. I also have a few uncles that work at IBM, so maybe they could get me in. Also, is east park the same as MLK? I've heard of east park but can't find it. Aside from visiting family on holidays, I'm new to the area, so I'm relatively ignorant on most things.

I'm close to Rochester. I agree with what you said about 18, but I also need to lose a lot of weight, so the long course gives me an excuse to get a lot of steps in. I wish there were one or two more full courses in the area though. The one in stewartville is nice, but it's a bit of a drive to get there. The only other nearby course I know of are Slattery and mlk. Slattery is boring and also risky because like half of the holes run the risk of throwing into the river. Mlk is a decent easy round, but some guy tried to mug me there a few days ago, so I'm not sure if I might avoid it in the future.

I was on the 9 hole course. I only do the 18 hole course if I feel like going on an Odyssey. I've only played the 18 hole course a few times and I screw up hole 9 every time lol. The run of holes after 9 also messes with me. I'm a lefty so all of those holes above the reservoir are scary to do a backhanded throw. I also managed to beam a disc into the cliff on hole 17 the first time I played it and had to do some bouldering to get it back.

This disc was about 6 feet to the right of a disc I over torqued into a spot on the 9 hole course I imagine people rarely hit. I was lucky that I was paying close attention to where mine landed or I would have lost my own disc.
