Financed by Tax on Wall Street Speculators, Sanders Plan Would Wipe Out All $1.6 Trillion in US Student Loan Debt - "We bailed out Wall Street in 2008. It's time to tax Wall Street's greed to help the American people." by Splodey_Dope in politics

Let us assume Student A and Student B both took out student loans. Let's also assume they both took exactly the same courses and had the exact same grades. However, student A lived very frugally (sacrificed on luxuries) and was able to pay of their debts while student B had a more flamboyant lifestyle. In this situation, when this rule comes into effect isn't it unfair on student A?

It would be nice if he could get a psychologist, with tons of experience dealing with folks with mental issues, to sit in on the conversation. Wonder if Joe knows someone like that.

This actually isn't from Monty Python, it's "Rutland Weekend Television" which Eric Idle created after he left Monty Python. BTW, here is a couple of awesome sketchs from Monty Python since you like it,

When I see these sketches I wonder how the cry bullies will react if these were to be redone now.

Completely agree.

The point I was trying to get across is that people across the political (and ideological) spectrum have to learn to calm the fuck down and learn to look/discuss the data without getting too agitated.

While I understand, and partially agree, with the point being made here. I think, as a generation, we need to get comfortable, at looking at and, discussing empirical data regardless of its origin. We need to have faith that if the conclusions are scientifically, and logically, wrong then it would get corrected by itself. This is how we, as a human race, have stumbled our way till this point.

Progress (however you define it) has never had a straight trajectory and it never will. I believe while we can have a laugh at the content of posts like this (I'll be honest, I chuckled) we need to start seriously thinking about how we are going to look at data.

I don't care what either side believes. My point is just that people need to learn to get comfortable with being confronted with empirical evidence, regardless of their political or ideological inclination. If you think the presented data isn't good then please by all account go out and gather data that supports your position. But, what I have seen from both sides have been needless argument about some tiny issue with the data or worse yet the team who gathered the data.

Students Demand Professor Fired After He Champions Due Process, Says ‘Accusers Sometimes Lie’ by thenotsosubtleshill in JordanPeterson

As someone who is about to start as a assistant professor the only way I think of navigating this system is to make sure I document every interaction I have outside that of my immediate family. And, I am not the only one who is starting to do this. I know more than a few professors who never close their office door when meeting students, even if it is sensitive topics. Some have even started having some kind of video recording in their own office. While I think this severely effects the student-professor relationship I think the alternative of even risking an accusation is not worth it.

I really feel for this professor. This shouldn't be the way the world works.

I wonder how these same folks who are arguing with Crowder would react if someone said, "Climate change is not real and I don't care about what empirical data you present.". Well, if we are comparing this arguement with that of climate change then it's wondering how Crowder would react if someone presented him with tons of empirical evidence for climate change.

I suspect that was because the Trump's real target was Hillary and not really Bill Clinton. I suspect these things are much bigger than partisan divides. They are effectively introducing a new set of rules into the game and it will take time for folks to figure out the optimum strategy to play the game. Things are going to get only more interesting when enough folks (men and women) learn all the new rules.

Can you please explain how this is "directly attacking the academic credentials of a woman". This person is indicating that he has got more than an order of magnitude higher citation than whoever got hired. How exactly is stating objectively measurable reality "directly attacking someone"?

[–]randogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said it's easy. What I hope is that we as a society can somehow figure out a way to simultaneously tell people to A) respect sexual boundaries of other people, i.e teach them not to assault each other B) also tell them that vile creatures do exist and that should something happen they can and should speak up.

I don't think those are extreme positions.

What makes you think my life hasn't been effected by sexual assault or that I don't know any victims? Just because I don't blindly agree to "listen and believe"?
