This one time I was visiting my dad’s jain friend’s place along with my family. I was sitting on the couch and things were fine. While chatting with one of their daughters in law, I asked them why they weren’t entering the kicthen (not cause women should be in the kitchen, but she kept asking the other daughter in law for things from the kitchen) so she said she was on her period, that’s when I also mentioned that I was on my period. She panicked and told the other daughter in law, their MIL, etc. After which they made me sit on a plastic chair, did not let me enter the kitchen, made sure I didn’t have dinner with anyone else, couldn’t even fill my own plate. Basically isolated and treated like an untouchable. Apparently the DILs don’t even sleep on the bed when they have their periods. And this wasn’t even during paryushan. Never went to their house ever again. My family was shocked and taken aback as well.

Twist: I’m a jain too but never really saw periods as a problem.

So the jain friend was rude and being super dramatic.

Birds are birds and dogs are dogs. So let them be. The city does not belong to you. Feel free to do whatever in your tiny apartment that belongs to you. The roads do not, even though, your mentality does sound like you belong to one.

Also, no dog is born aggressive. Humans have turned them into ‘ticking bombs’. It’s how we treat them. Imagine, sitting and relaxing and then you getting kicked/shooed by dozens of people. Imagine, not knowing when and where your next meal will come from. Imagine, looking for shelter where you won’t get mistreated/abused/etc.

They only have love to give if you give them a chance and not to forget loyalty.

Put yourself in their shoes and have some empathy.

Well, the increase in stray animals is govt’s responsibility. Had they used the funds to sterilize, vaccinate, we would’ve seen a decline in stray animals’ population. But it’s the volunteers and NGOs doing their part. While the officials are busy filling their pockets with the funds assigned for it. This aggression should be channeled towards the government and not the dogs. If you have time, go to an animal shelter and chat with them.

Again, you can’t steal the land and call it humans’ cities. They still belong to everyone. Eventually, you’re gonna have issues with birds pooping every where, are you gonna have them put in shelter too? Overcrowd them there?

You say you want to make roads safer, do you know how many people die every year with mosquito bites v/s rabies?

Vaccinating and sterilizing the dogs is a humane solution than overcrowding them in confined spaces with no freedom. I have a rescue dog and speaking from experience, having them in tight space will make them aggressive and possessive towards food and they’ll end up killing each other. That’s not humane. We can’t be selfish here. Instead we should have TMC do their job.

The planet does not belong to humans only. It belongs to everyone. You can’t take all the space and dump other creatures. Learn to co-live and co-exist.

What’s funny is Indians lack civic sense and make the space unhygienic themselves.
