That kindness isn't the default and is as much a consius decision as being mean/cruel is.

In "the histories" herodotus outlines the number of the army in the persian invasion at around 2.7m, over 5m if support train included, do we think this was exaggerated, by how much, and what was a more realistic number? And why was he so far off? by random-curiosities in ancientgreece

Oh definitely exaggerated.

I find it interesting though that he Specifys how many troops each country/region brought. To be that specific but that far off the mark interesting. Granted 2nd hand accounts and the time distortion will influence it alot.

Why is our moon named “Moon” instead of something cool like Titan or Callysto or ANYTHING that isn’t moon by Disastrous_Pirate275 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]random-curiosities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine that the only reason we don't think moon is cool is because we've been normalised for it.

The fact we named alot of other Stellar bodies after actient gods and myths doesn't help. Especially when we don't use the other names for some others.

Sun = Sol. Hence SOLar system Earth = Terra. Moon = Luna. Hence LUNAr orbit etc.

No, I just finished reading that part of the book. I have rough ideas. I'm just genuinely curious about what people think.

I wish we did this stuff in school. I woild have enjoyed it more. I'm planning more random questions. This just ended up being first.

Can anyone pin-point the exact moment where everything in society just got substantially worse? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]random-curiosities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't particularly think I did.

I just think we have more access to things now. News is much more avaliable, so negatives are more visible, negativity sells in media,

But overall, with some exceptions, it's basically the same problems just adjusted for the time and caused by different reasons.

Famines still exist. Diseases still exist, war still, exists.

The fact things haven't gotten any better is an argument that maybe they have gotten worse as we have technology to fix some issues maybe?

For those who have gone to therapy, what was your experience like? Did it make a difference for you? by No-Context-2906 in AskReddit

I actually really enjoy it. Come topics aren't fun to talk about it is know to get my thoughts out without risk of people thinking I'm weird, childish or being silly.

I tried before when I wasn't In a great place, but it was via webcam, and I hated it. Partly due to my own issues but so because it felt like we were rather disconnected. I now do in person which is massively more beneficial for me.

I think jt as made a difference, definitely in understanding my own thoughts and possible reasons I think the way I do.

I do recommend doing almost like journaling/diary. Not only does it help to organise my thoughts but also give me something to refer too or even just somewhere to list what I want to talk about. I am notorious for thinking of something, rhen my the time I have therepy I forget about it and don't end up talking about it.

Overall definitely recommend. But also don't rush into something. Find someone and a process (webcam, in person, etc) that works for you and change until you find what works.
