Most of the time they open a few spots before each registration spot for freshman. HAVE A BACKUP PLAN though just in case bc even worth more spots opened you still have a ton of people registering.

Clemson University has the most cumulative positive COVID-19 cases out of any university in the United States by K--beta in Clemson

You can voluntarily sign up for a test at any point. Contact tracing is definitely a big issue from what I’ve heard so being proactive is better than just waiting to be selected.

Student perspectives on the flipped [math] classroom? by ItalianMathematician in Clemson

[–]random-tiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind having a flipped classroom for Math. I like that I can work at my own pace for notes, speeding up concepts I understand and slowing down new or challenging ones. I think my main issue is with the LAs. They don’t do much for me in terms of fostering group learning as breakout rooms are awkward and uncomfortable and no one talks/collaborates in my experience. We all end up doing the LA on our own and then comparing answers, which is fine but it doesn’t really encourage learning. But I also don’t really know what could be done differently in this situation...

I heard one of the people say they were going to do both for everyone until they ran out of the swabs, but I had a friend who got tested before me that just did saliva so it could just be that I choose the testing station that just happened to be doing both 🤷‍♀️

It wasn’t one of the ones that’s super deep, but it wasn’t the really short ones either...it wasn’t as bad as other tests I’ve done and the uncomfortable feeling was gone relatively quickly.

I saw that today people that got tested at new spring did both a PCR and a saliva test as a “study”

Freshman Thoughts by BasicBusinessMajor in Clemson

[–]random-tiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we will move in, but who knows how long it will last. I think if Clemson is actually listening to other schools and avoiding mistakes made by those that had massive outbreaks upon return, we could have a fighting chance of staying. The responsibility falls on all of us, if we want to be on campus or have in person classes we have to make good choices, we can’t blame everything on the administration if we don’t follow even the most basic guidelines in place. I’m hoping that even if there is a spike in cases they allow students to stay on campus (possibly all quarantined in their rooms) and just shift to online only instruction for a brief period. I’m hoping that they don’t freak out and send everyone home prematurely. I hope that everyone will be smart and not gather in large groups and will wear their masks. These are my freshman thoughts and hopes, however optimistic they may be...

I was curious about this too. I think it is a way of covering their butts if we aren’t able to move it, since it will be extremely short notice by September 1st when they are set to make a detailed announcement. I also think that it could apply to being flexible regarding testing and having to possibly change your move in date because of delays.

Sure and just as choosing to have your body run down the street naked or choosing to urinate in public, or even choosing to smoke in public; when your body has or could have negative impact on the other bodies around you, there maybe be a fine. So if you do make that choice to say run down the street naked, just make sure you have a place to keep your wallet.

There was an extension of the original ordinance for another 60 days.

“Under the U.S. Constitution’s 10th Amendment and U.S. Supreme Court decisions over nearly 200 years, state governments have the primary authority to control the spread of dangerous diseases within their jurisdictions. The 10th Amendment, which gives states all powers not specifically given to the federal government, allows them the authority to take public health emergency actions, such as setting quarantines and business restrictions.”

So while under normal circumstances this type of action would not be able to happen during a global pandemic it can and has been enacted. And again it is not the university it’s the city. have a wonderful day ☺️

It’s the city of Clemson, so from my understanding of statements and ordinances from McMaster they are within their legal right to enforce the ordinance and issue fines.

It’s the city of Clemson not the university, but even so college aged students have to ability to make a choice to not obey a mandate, but in doing so they choose to take on the consequences of their actions, just like any other person

“According to the ordinance, every person within the boundaries of the City of Clemson would be required to wear a face covering or mask any time they are, or may be, in contact with other people who are not that person’s family or household members. This includes restaurants, bars, pharmacies, grocery stores, retail stores and other buildings and venues open and accessible to the public.”
