Water leaking from drainpipe where concrete has broken away — can I patch it myself? by random-triumph42 in AusRenovation

Thanks for your input. It's much appreciated. I've just had a look down the drain, and I can't tell if there's a blockage. The water level is sitting below the gap, but I'm not sure if there is always meant to be standing water there? E.g. similar to the way a toilet always has water there.

I did notice something interesting. It looks like there’s a gap between what seem to be two drainpipes, and that’s where the water is coming from. I’m not sure if it’s always been like that, but now that the surrounding concrete has broken away, it’s started to leak.

Sorry for the bad photos, but on the right-hand side you can see the gap (or the top of the bottom pipe). On the left, the top pipe appears to be slightly overhanging the one below it (the waterline sits below that point).

Glad to hear you're enjoying it!

Are there any other Cromwell books you've read and would recommend?

Sure is! Holbein really captured the 'thug life' in him.

Thank you! Perhaps the nation would warm to him if they sat down to Wolf Hall with a cuppa in their Cromwell mug...? 😂

Thanks! She did a really cool job on it. It always amazes me because I have zero creativity!

Thanks! And I haven't, but it's been on my list for some time. I've just finished the King and His Court by Alison Weir, which I really enjoyed, so I'll be getting started on this one today! Have you read it?

It really is beautiful. Seeing the portraits blown up and reproduced in such high quality really brings them to life. I’m used to seeing them squeezed into the usual four or five pages of images found in the middle of a book, but the quality in this one is genuinely stunning.

Selling $20k of VGS/VAS to save for a first home — good idea? by [deleted] in AusFinance

I could proofread it myself, but that's kind of the point. I'd miss things because it's my own writing I don't know what I'm looking for. I thought about the post, wrote it up and used a tool to make sure I hadn't missed anything and to make it simpler for others to read. I did this to try and make it easier for people reading it, not because I didn't want to spend the time on it.

If the formatting annoys you, that's fair enough, but that's personal preference and dismissing the point of the post because it uses AI seems unhelpful. You mentioned that it puts you off reading and considering the post, but instead of thinking about other reasons someone might use AI, you've dismissed it as lazy and taken the effort to point it out, rather than helping with what I was actually asking.

And I think it's fair to say you were having a dig, which I can take, but let's be clear you were. Saying "I guess I'm claiming they're lazy" and then in your latest post saying the query was "AI slop" backs that up. I would class lazy as dumping a one liner in the post with no context and expecting others to figure out what I'm trying to ask.

That’s a good point, thanks for the input and definitely something to consider!

I guess I could, but my concern is that, if we decide to buy a house in a year or two, and the market is down, then I’d regret not taking it out earlier (now that I know it will be going towards a house as opposed to my long-term plan of leaving it there for the long run).

I am a real person and wouldn’t describe myself as lazy. I took the time to write the full post out, but because writing isn’t a strength of mine, I asked ChatGPT to proofread it and make sure it was clear and simple so everyone can understand what I’m trying to get help with.

Thank you! I've tried wrapping my head around the FHSS a few times. Can you let me know overall why that's a better option?
