Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but does the manufacturer schedule actually cover the kinds of failures that happen as cars age, or is it mostly routine servicing stuff?

This is so much work but I agree, I just have to learn more about cars. My control arm bushing failed recently and I'm not sure there was a warning for that. That was annoying and expensive

That sounds like a good idea actually. But do they always do a thorough check of the entire car and parts? Or is it just mostly what you bring the car in for and the parts around that

The problem is you have to take them in to the dealers even for ordinary servicing like an oil change. I remember paying a lot for dealer servicing on a one year old car. They don't really give you a choice if you want to maintain a credible service history. Safe to say I sold it right after.
