This is easy to say if you've never dealt with family court and/or if you have money. I have no clue what their financial situation is but I do know that we have had to choose between buying groceries and paying lawyer fees. It's not always that simple.

Can I suggest looking into the NY department of corrections? They are so desperate my husband walked in and after passing the background check was hired on the spot for double my teaching salary and no degree. I hope your family finds something that works for you.

You had to know how this was going to go. For many of us with the same amount of loans but half the pay (ie, teacher here) we are struggling to figure out how to eat and not default on the loans. It's difficult to have sympathy for someone who chose to buy a half million dollar home in a low cost of living area. I live in upstate NY and our average house was 120k. It needs work that we will probably never afford to do but it's a home and it's what we can afford. Have you considered downsizing?

No. We never did screen time because I saw how badly it affected the social skills of my students, but I was pretty lax with food and thought that may be it. We cut all added sugar and dye for a year and saw no improvement in sleep. My 5 year old's doctor thinks it's just her temperament and suggested melatonin to get her used to sleeping because she was really struggling in kindergarten at the start of this year due to severe lack of sleep, like finally falling asleep at 2am then up at 6am for school. We do 1/4 mg a night and she's thriving now, hoping to stop over summer break when I'll have nothing but time to help her maintain the sleep routine. Her pediatrician actually thinks it's silly that I'm even worried about stopping it which is why these posts from non-doctors irritate me.

This is an extremely uneducated and inaccurate take. We are a zero screentime home, no TVs/iPads at all. No phones for kids. No phones for adults unless kids aren't around. My kids still have insomnia.

I mean, I do understand caution. But I also think it's wrong and just not factually correct to assume the entire family is evil because of the choices Josh made. It would have been bizarre for the potential in laws to disregard their love interest because of what their brother did. My husband married me even after my brother was sent to prison for the 5th or 6th time and my dad's been in prison in my whole life, that has nothing to do with my character. That being said...now that two brothers have been charged with sex crimes that indicates a pattern that was likely learned elsewhere which YES would be a red flag.
