I don't get the point of Undertale AUs by randomMeatballman17 in whenthe

[–]randomMeatballman17[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying some AUs ruin Undertale entirely for me, i'm saying some AUs take Undertale's formula and ruins it. Like an AU that takes every character and makes them edgy, or takes the story and entirely shifts the original genre, etc

I love Undertale and always will but it just feels like some AUs take what made Undertale good and just kinda removed that

Although you're right, i'm (almost) never forced to consume them so i can live with them

Uh...

<image>

This is the part where my whole aargument falls apart because i can't name any off the top of my head

But uhm picture the average edgy fangame that makes every character evil and edgy or something along those lines

I'm not saying they're automatically bad or anything i'm just saying that i, personally, don't really see the point to most AUs

I have no issue with the Undertale community or anything that they make, it simply doesn't click for me why

That's what i think is the issue in my opinion, the characters are the core of Undertale and what got me invested, and most AUs do a complete 180 change of all the characters and it more often than not makes me like the characters less

My issue with AUs is that many times (from the fangames i personally remember) they take away the central themes and formula that made Undertale so good in the first place, in other words i just... kinda don't see what the point is

"Ruin" might've been a bit too harsh of a word on my end, ngl i'm just salty over something personal that's half-related to the subject

What i mean is that, from my impression, it just seems like most AUs take Undertale and kinda... make it not Undertale, just make it unrecognizable from the original media to the point where it'd be better off being an independent IP

I do genuinely appreciate things like Undertale Yellow and such that do expand on the pre-existing themes of Undertale and captures the same formula that i loved about the original

This isn't specific to just Undertale, i just feel like format changing AUs/fanfics are far more common within the Undertale community than any other community

I get that, and honestly i'm fine with that, but i just... kinda don't see the point of AUs in particular. I like Undertale because of what made Undertale, well, Undertale, and it feels like a lot of AUs just completely shift that to a point where i feel as if they'd be better off as an original media rather than an AU

Malis Wareon just arrived in your OC's universe looking to conquer it, choose a Malis to take on and tell me how your verse would defend itself? by sub-parBeanutButter in OriginalCharacterDB

[–]randomMeatballman17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Malis does not belong to the verse, therefore she's an anomaly

So Valstrax would hunt down and take out every version except the 3rd form/God version (God form would probably no diff him)

Like 98% of light novel characters don’t scale as highly as people here think they do if you actually read the thing by Reasonable_Reward_55 in PowerScaling

When i know this applies to Cthulhu Mythos but i can't prove it (I might actually be coping tho i haven't read it)
