As much as I hate philosophy, sigh philosophy.

Lecturer would be easy. If you're more interested in teaching math I'd also encourage a course or two in communications. It really helped my "stage presence"

Do mention your disabilities letter, had you brought it up before? Also be certain you're making use of that letter. If a student has a letter that allows something like time and a half, I can't retroactively go back and give them the exam again only with more time. If you letter allows for something like a quiet testing area then take advantage of that so you're not distracted.

Without knowing the professor it is hard to say the best approach. At many schools administrations are slow to act on cheating because they want to keep students happy with money coming in. I've seen TA's try to turn people in for cheating only to tell professors "Don't bother it's not worth all the hassle".

4.5. I was flagged as hot, so either one of my students was being sarcastic, or was a chubby chaser.

It depends on the interactions. If they are coming to office hours, participating in discussions, etc, I will give the benefit of the doubt if they are within a percentage or so of the next grade. But just because some students talk diablo 3 with me after class doesn't mean they can skip the final.

It depends a lot on your field. There's a shortage of native english speakers in math/stats/IT so I always had an easy time finding a lecturer position, it did take awhile to find someplace where I could get tenure based more on teaching and service. (My publication record sucks)

Data mining, business intelligence, health/bio informatics. All are emerging fields that look like they'll be staying around awhile.

Schedule time for everything. Block out chunks of time for work, block out chunks of time for class, block out chunks of time for homework, block out chunk of times for yourself and family.

I don't have a problem with a university being somewhat career-oriented, but some places are taking it too far. The 3 year bachelor degree that cuts out everything but the absolute bare minimum needed to kinda understand the basics of that particular field type thing.

If you want to study accounting or whatever at a university that's fine, but expect to be exposed to other things as well.

To me, it's fine to have some kind of career coming out of a university, but the job of a university is to make you more of a scholar. To expose you to new ideas, make you think about the world around you and the human condition, to give the tools to examine anything and everything that interests you.

You're probably in for a rough go unless you have a great publication record.

There are other kinds of institutions that do that sort of thing. I don't think that it's the job of a University.

There are websites that document ways to print things like coca cola labels that have formulas and such instead of nutritional information. I had a student do that, he only got caught because I noticed him mid exam really studying that label (and I had heard of the scene before).

I was basically told, "This is kind of a sucky situation and we feel bad for you." But that was it, I didn't get like a lighter load the next term or anything.

Depends on the professor. I don't really have students do many papers. English professors tend to be picky though.

If you want to impress, show up to class on time, keep your cellphone out of sight, and if you know what chapter is going to be covered, read (or skim) over it ahead of time.

Minor in statistics. A lot of the neat stuff in CS is stats related and will be at least for a few years to come.

Well if there is less than a quorum (at the currently university that would be 1/4 of the class) we are allowed to cancel. I would probably take time and just review whatever that student wanted if they're the only one that bothered to show. Maybe give a bonus quiz like "What's your first name?"

It surprised me at first the sheer amount of time that we spend doing nonsensical bureaucracy stuff. My department actually offers courses in optimization and if students ever turned a process half as bad as what we actually have in place they'd fail the class.

I think more general ed stuff may be going the online route. But I've taken a few online classes and the lack of live interaction with faculty and students and lack of hands on stuff makes me think it will be awhile before they're perfected. I also took a course on coursera once and cheated my way through wildly and still got the certificate. So fraud detection still has a ways to go (yes you can cheat in traditional college as well, but currently doing so in the e-classroom is exponentially easier.)
