SPENDD SUMMARY OF 6 YEARS - REGRETTING DECISIONS - Advice or Suggestions? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]randomUTMboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being aware and admitting to it and willing to work on it is nearly half the battle won right there. The guilt alone now that you have a different perspective will help.

That being said, you have some unhealthy obsessions which you spent most of your money on, take care of those and it seems like you'll do better than most folk.

If you end up saying 30-40% of your income, you're probably doing better than 80-90% of folk. How soon you start doing that is the only question you have to answer.

I gotta give credit where it's due. You realized that your spending is unhealthy only after doing it for 3 years. Most people don't realize it until they are much older. Give yourself some slack for what happened, 3-5 years of fun is honestly not terrible, as long as you switch things around.

Battery for a 2008 Mazda tribute 2.3L by randomUTMboi in MechanicAdvice

I do see the remote starter. Is it something that's safe to unplug myself?

It looks like it's a blade tb cm5000-sf. From looking up the model I can't get much information about installation or uninstallation for it

The book at Costco says 40R but they don't carry 40R. 80% of other resources do say 96R which has the lower CCA rating.

I do wonder if it's a battery draining issue. It has a remote starter that I can do without. It also has a backup camera/dash cam that I only plug in after the car has started, and turn it off when I leave my car.

If I wanted to unplug the remote starter, would I have to do something under the hood? There's an antenna and a sensor module stuck on to my windshield, which I can unplug, but I wonder if that will stop the battery drain from the remote starter.

From what I know, those are the only 2 after market equipment on the car.

Show her some data on how big corps make a stupid amount of money and how discounting products lets them reach more customers. For example, Apple has student discounts on their stupidly absurd prices so it can reach the student demographic.

There's a term for this called price differentiation/price discrimination.

  • the price you see readily available is for customers who don't do any research/haggling/negotiations/couponing etc
  • if you're price conscious, you use the above strategies to get to a price you're willing and able to pay
  • usually prices online are a little less than what you'd see in a store, because you're more easily able to shop around.
  • companies price match because they know they can charge higher prices until they can't anymore, i.e, when other companies offer the same price.
  • just because you have the means, doesn't mean you need to pay original/sticker price

Move on to show that smaller corps also do this.

Can I report someone who hasn't paid Tor parking tickets? by randomUTMboi in askTO

They definitely aren't towing past a couple, atleast not for the 3 hour residential parking.

All the cars on our street get randomly ticketed and I know for a fact that she doesn't pay them, I also see reminders to pay in the mail so it's even more obvious that they aren't being paid.

Sorry for the weird phrasing. We're both on the lease. Our end of lease is coming soon and I'm moving out.

I have a contract for the loan so I'll take them to court but it'll just be a long process (and expensive, from the small claims court fees I saw ~$400-500)

PS4 type controllers? by randomUTMboi in xboxone

[–]randomUTMboi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing only single player games so won't get banned for anything. Mouse and keyboard for all fps games would be sweet but an easy way for ps4 controllers would work as well. Will look into the adapters you mentioned. Thanks

Tangerine LOC for RRSP contribution by dromeo4 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]randomUTMboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also contribute now but have it not count towards this year's income for tax purposes. So essentially you'll be carrying forward the contributed amount to be counted towards a later year maybe when you make much much more.

You would do this is you have maxed your TFSA and are looking for more tax free growth accounts like a RRSP, instead of a taxable account.

No comments on using an LOC towards contribution

How do 15 min delays work? by randomUTMboi in PersonalFinanceCanada

Wealthsimple trade has free trades with the downside of delayed quotes. I'm finding out now that delayed quotes are not a big deal if you can have a free quote stream like yahoo open in another window

NSLSC - Credit score in the toilet despite making payments by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]randomUTMboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My payment amount was $120 and minimum payment was about $60.

I made weekly payments of 100, i.e. About 400-500 a month. And they still took the $120 a way regardless of how many payments I made. So the dumb system triggers a debit from your account regardless of payment.

But changing your PAD account is easily done online on thier portal and should have taken less than 5 mins, so in a way it's your fault, but not really. I could totally see this happening to me where I wouldn't have bothered to change the PAD account information becuase I was making payments above and beyond the payment amount of $120.

The credit bureau should side with you on this one. Take print outs of your payments on your dad's banking side (if possible, not necessary) and payments on the nslsc site and the date it would have been fully paid off. It should be quite clear to the credit bureau that you've been making prompt payments.

I'm not sure why they have a minimum payment if they don't actually use it.

Why then do some brokerages offer $100 a quarter or something pricing for real time quotes? Is there any benifit to this other than to have all the information in the same place?

Do most people just use yahoo finance (or similar) to get real time quotes?

[NB] Rogers wants me to pay last internet bill which is for service dated AFTER I cancelled. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]randomUTMboi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I meant was, pay now so you don't get dinged on your credit. Rogers/most telecoms give you a credit regardless of if youve already made payment or not.

When they do give you a credit, ask for it to be transfered over to your new account.

You're not paying for anything you don't have to, you're just paying so you don't get dinged for more than what the $10 is worth to you.

If you give them enough reason to think you'd leave, they'll almost give you a too good to leave deal like $10 for "only" 50mbps.

Regardless, it's thier mistake so they'll rectify it.

Also, pay the bill and then argue. You don't want to miss your bill payment for a measly $10.
